LAYTON – Erin Bailey converted a penalty in extra time when No. 6 Layton High Girls Soccer No. 11 Beat Corner Canyon 3-2 in the second round 6A to advance to the state quarter-finals.

Bailey scored the Lancers’ first goal (12-5), assisted by Reese Robinson, then LHS took a 2-1 lead in the second half when Kristen Moss converted a ricochet from Brook Nelson. Corner Canyon tied the game with 30 seconds to send it into overtime.

DAVIS 3, WESTLAKE 0

KAYSVILLE – Davis achieved a second round playoff win against No. 14 Westlake with goals from three different players.

Avery Thal, Brooklyn Phongsavath and Tessa Franks scored for the No. 3 darts (14-2), while Phongsavath, Kayla Wade and Rachel Bodkin each set up a goal. Taygan Sill scored the shutout in goal.

Davis will host Region 1 rivals Layton in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

RIVERTON 4, FREMONT 1

RIVERTON – Olivia Van Orden scored a goal from Marli Sanford in the first half when No. 15 Fremont fell to No. 2 Riverton (16-1) in the second 6A round.

The Silverwolves finish the season with a 9-9 mark.

CROSS AREA

The Ogden High Boys ‘and Morgan High Girls’ cross-country teams took the Region 13 titles in the region’s cross-country championship races in Millcreek on Tuesday.

The Ogden boys placed six runners in the top seven and seven in the top 10, with Jack Blodgett winning the race nearly 22 seconds ahead of teammate Jake Peterson while the Tigers won the regional title with 18 points over Morgan’s 53.

In the girls’ race, Morgan had the top four and five of the top six when MHS finished with 16 points, well ahead of Ogden’s 39 points.

Trojan’s senior Kate Heywood won dominantly with a time of 19: 04.5, which was a full minute and 22 seconds ahead of second place.

FARMINGTON – Syracuse won at Farmington 25-14, 25-11, 25-15.

Hailee Garcia served five aces and dealt 29 assists for Syracuse (20-2, 9-0 Region 1). Andie Thomas counted 13 kills, Mia Thompson had three blocks, and Kambree Rodriguez added 18 digs

BOX ELDER 3, BONNEVILLE 0

BRIGHAM CITY – Box Elder swept Bonneville 25-23, 25-19, 25-22

Box Elder (14-11, 2-6 Region 5) did not report any stats.

Kelsie Heslop beat Bonneville (9-17, 0-8) with 12 kills and 14 digs. Evelyn Park counted three kills and three blocks. Peighton Summers added two kills, four aces, 25 assists and 10 digs.

ROY – Nelly Arenas had 15 digs and Jayna Rogers scored seven kills when Roy (11-7, 7-2 Region 2) lost an even-set match to Hunter, who in turn won a share of the Region 2 championship.
