Our students overcame so many obstacles during the pandemic.

In 2021, several exceptional students completed a new medical assistance program in Idaho Falls. Unitek Learning has opened this satellite campus amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges they faced, Mariah Cannon, Nancy Cardenas and Alexis Goodwin faced the situation and completed the accelerated program.

“Our students overcame so many obstacles during the pandemic,” said Felicia Wright, the Idaho Falls campus director. “It was a big hurdle to switch from a traditional environment to a virtual platform overnight. This included learning phlebotomy, injection and EKG skills online. To safely bypass this, our students chat with their teachers via video chat while they demonstrate the newly acquired skills to family or friends. They also practiced billing, coding and management tasks through virtual simulations. I am so proud of our medical assistance graduates. “

Mariah Cannon graduated with a GPA of 4.0 and held an almost perfect attendance record throughout the program. She recently accepted a position at Rehabilitative Health Services (RHS). In addition to having a great memory, Mariah is a natural at phlebotomy and a great listener. Nancy Cardenas learned the fastest in senior year. She overcame her fear of needles and became one of the most versatile students. No matter the circumstances, Nancy was always ready to help. Like Mariah and Nancy, Alexis Goodwin studied very hard to complete the program. She completed the Medical Assisting Program with a GPA of 3.95.

“We are very excited for our graduates in Idaho Falls,” said Janis Paulson, chief executive officer, Unitek Learning. “Not only have you enrolled on a new campus with new teachers and skills, but also in the midst of a global pandemic. It shaped their curriculum and learning experiences. Despite a surreal year in 2020, these graduates grappled with problems and successfully completed their degrees. We can’t wait to see what they will do in their health careers. “
