Utah County lawmakers assigned to various interim committees | Government and Politics

Utah County’s lawmakers and the rest of the Utah state legislature were assigned to various interim committees Tuesday to work on topics ranging from education to law enforcement to health and personal services.

In the next few months, Utah lawmakers will “discuss politics (and) prepare legislation for the upcoming General Assembly,” said Senate President Stuart Adams, R-Layton, in a press release.

“I have full confidence in the legislature’s ability to communicate with the public and work together to develop solid policy,” said the Senate President. “Together, Utah will continue to lead the nation in economic growth and opportunity.”

“Legislators will spend the next few months studying important issues in preparation for next year’s session as we work to meet the most critical needs of our state,” added Brad Wilson, House Speaker, R- Kaysville, added.

Several Utah Senators and Representatives have held leadership positions on various interim committees, including Senator Mike McKell, R-Spanish Fork, who will chair the Interim Political Subdivision Committee, which will recently be attended by Utah Representative Jefferson Burton.

Rep. Cory Maloy, R-Lehi, has been named co-chair of the Interim Committee on Government Operations, which will include representatives Nelson Abbott (R-Orem) and Doug Welton (R-Payson). Rep. Norm Thurston, R-Provo, has been appointed vice chairman of the committee.

Orem Republican MP Keven Stratton will co-chair the Interim Committee on Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment, which includes Senator David Hinkins, R-Orangeville, while Senator Curt Bramble, R-Provo, will chair the Interim Committee on Take over business and work. Brady Brammer, R-Highland, Francis Gibson, R-Mapleton, and Jon Hawkins, R-Pleasant Grove, will serve on the Interim Committee on Business and Labor.

Hawkins, who was hospitalized with COVID-19 throughout the 2021 General Assembly, will serve as vice chair of the Interim Judiciary Committee, which has also been assigned to Brammer and Senator Mike Kennedy, R-Alpine.

Kennedy, a physician, will serve as co-chair of the Interim Committee on Health and Human Services assigned to Rep. Marsha Judkins, R-Provo, and Senator Jacob Anderegg, R-Lehi.

Hinkins will chair the Interim Public Utilities, Energy and Technology Committee, which will include Stratton, Lehi Republican Rep. Kay Christofferson, and Fountain Green Rep. Derrin Owens.

Senator Keith Grover, R-Provo, has been named co-chair of the Interim Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Committee, which will include Gibson and Judkins. Burton was named vice chairman of the committee.

Grover will serve on the Interim Committee on Education, along with representatives Val Peterson (R-Orem) and Adam Robertson (R-Provo). Robertson will also serve on the Interim Committee on Retirement and Independent Businesses with Brammer and Stratton.

McKell and Welton also serve on the Interim Committee on Economic Development and Labor Services; Robertson, Bramble, and Abbott on the Interim Committee on Income and Taxes; and Christofferson, Anderegg and Thurston on the Transportation Interim Committee.
