Vine Grove Family serves the community Thanksgiving breakfast

WELCOME BACK OF PINE GROVE. FAMILY HAD A TRADITION TO SERVE THEIR FAMILY ON THANKSGIVING, BUT THIS YEAR THEIR TRADITION EXPANDED TO THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY. ADDIE MEINERS BY CITY HALL WHERE THEY WERE SERVING SOMETHING OTHER THAN A TRADITIONAL THANKSGIVING. THIS MAY NOT LOOK LIKE A TRADITIONAL THANKSGIVING MEAL, BUT THE DUNWOODY JOHNSON FAMILY SAW THAT THEIR VINE GROVE COMMUNITY NEEDED SOMETHING A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT THIS HOLIDAY SEASON. BESIDES THE TURKEY AND MASHED POTATOES PANCAKE BAKING EGG SAUSAGE HASHBROWN CASSEROLE. AND DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE GRITS. JENNIFER BANKS AND HER FAMILY SAY IT’S BEEN A THANKSGIVING TRADITION TO KEEP THEIR DOORS OPEN TO WHOLE VINE GROVE COMMUNITY. WELL, BACK IN THE DAYS BEFORE ADOPTIONS TO DO MILITARY STUFF, WE ALWAYS HAD BY THE MILITARY PEOPLE COME TO OUR HOUSES AND THEN THEY STOPPED AND ASKED TO SAY, HEY, LET’S DO IT OURSELVES. AND A NEW TRADITION WAS BORN. THANKSGIVING MORNING, THEY HOSTED A BREAKFAST AT THE VINE GROVE HALL. WHEN THEY MESS WITH ANYBODY, OTHER EVENT BECAUSE YOU KNOW, NORMALLY EVERYBODY DOES THE LUNCH DINNER SO THAT’S THE REASON WHY WE DECIDED TO DO BREAKFAST. FAMILIES, VETERANS, FRIENDS AND EVEN THE MAYOR OF VINE GROVE CAME TO ENJOY THE HOLIDAY TOGETHER. THIS FIRST TIME FOR VINE GROVE ON GRAPES OF NEVER REALLY HAD KIND OF COMMUNITY. SO WE’RE GROWING. WE’RE BRINGING MORE PEOPLE INTO OUR CITY. AND WE’VE HAD A LOT OF PEOPLE WANT TO VOLUNTEER AND DO STUFF AND IT’S AWESOME. I LOVE TO SEE THEM VINE GROW. WE HAVE GOOD PEOPLE HERE, SO I JUST ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. THIS IS WHAT THANKSGIVING IS ALL ABOUT IS HELPING OTHERS GIVING BACK TO THE FAMILY ALSO MADE TO GO PLATES TO MAKE SURE THE WHOLE COMMUNITY CAN ENJOY A GOOD MEAL. THERE’S THESE BOXES ARE GOING EVERYWHERE A FOOD NOT JUST PEOPLE IN HERE. IT’S JUST GOING EVERYWHERE. SENIOR CITIZENS AND POLICE OFFICERS AND THE WOMAN WHO STARTED IT ALL, JEAN DUNWOODY, SAYS SHE’S JUST HAPPY TO SEE THAT HER FAMILY IS CARRYING ON HER LEGACY OF SPREADING LOVE. AND NOW THE LOVE INSTEAD OF HATE. THAT’S THAT’S WHAT IT IS.

When you think of a Thanksgiving meal, you typically would think turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and gravy. However, the Dinwiddie-Johnson family wanted to start a different tradition. Thursday morning, they served the Vine Grove community a Thanksgiving breakfast. Eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes and even grits were on the menu. “Normally everybody does the lunch or dinner, so that’s the reason why we decided to do the breakfast” said Jennifer Banks, one of the four sisters who helped put on the event. The sisters say they got the idea after watching the generosity of their mother, Jean Dinwiddie. She used to invite military members, first responders, anyone in the community over to their house to share a meal on Thanksgiving. This year, they decided to expand that tradition of hosting a breakfast at the Vine Grove city hall. Dozens of community members, including Mayor Pam Ogden, came out to help. “This is a first for Vine Grove. Vine Grove has never really had this kind of community event.” said Ogden. “We have a lot of people wanting to volunteer in our city and it’s awesome. I love to see it because we have good people here.”Families, community members, and even veterans attended the breakfast. For those who couldn’t make it, the Dinwiddie-Johnson family made to-go boxes of food to deliver around the community. Jean Dinwiddie said she was just happy to see her family carrying on her legacy of spreading love this holiday season.
