Visit some of Utah’s top roadside attractions

VERNAL, Utah – Our great state of Utah is nearly 85,000 square kilometers with a rich history ranging from national parks to prehistoric sites.

But KSL’s Dan Spindle wanted to spark your interest in the great roadside attractions and curiosities that could be worth a day trip for this selfie.

Here’s the map, with the locations of the top five places you’ve just seen, plus some honorable mentions – maybe we could call them Instagram-worthy – in the four corners of our state, according to SillyAmerica.com.

Could also start with the must-see Hole N ”the Rock in Moab.

It’s a 5,000-square-foot home built into the massive red rocks of southern Utah with a general store to make sure you get a souvenir for your trip.

You’ll see the sign on the rock face itself if you’re traveling south of Moab on US Highway 191.

Drive three hours north to Vernal, where you’ll be greeted by Dinah, the pink dinosaur – and it’s not your standard little green Sinclair strain you’d see at Holiday Oil across the street.

From east to west, from state border to state border. It’s nearly four and a half hours to see the impressive sculpture of the Utah Tree.

You pass the Great Salt Lake and Bonneville Salt Flats near Wendover and there it’s like an artistic rendition of an atom rising from the desert below.

No. 4 is the world’s largest slice of watermelon used for a float in Green River, and No. 5 is the Mr. Spock silencer that towers over the Rainbow Neon Sign Company in Salt Lake City.

Recognitions

The world’s first Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise is located here in Salt Lake City on State Street. They have a museum that Colonel Sanders would be proud of.

Last but not least – the Gilgal Sculpture Garden at 500 South and 800 East.

This should keep you occupied for a while and remind you – we’d love to see your photos and ideas for a great road trip to Utah with the hashtag #KSLTV.
