Downtown SLC goes big for New Year’s Eve

SALT LAKE CITY – After last year’s mostly virtual celebration, The Gateway will be back on New Year’s Eve for the biggest New Year’s Eve event in downtown Salt Lake City, “Last Hurray!”

“The Gateway is one of the best travel destination complexes in Utah,” said Matthew Minichino, vice president of Carver Road Hospitality.

After a completely pared-down and mostly virtual celebration last year, The Gateway is back in full swing – something people have been longing for.

“We think it has such a huge presence that there are a lot of places where people can spread out and still enjoy such a great community atmosphere because we all missed that. You know, we are ringing in a new year and we want to have that hope and joy during this time and we hope that you can safely do it here, ”said Jacklynn Briggs, director of marketing at The Gateway.

Speaking of cravings, many are enjoying eating in a brand new location at The Gateway: Flanker Kitchen and Sporting Club, which only opened three weeks ago.

The VP of Carver Road Hospitality says their social entertainment model of food is in high demand right now.

“It’s the only thing that’s really been taken away from everyone, and we’re one of the best socializing concepts to find in all of Salt Lake, so we’ve seen a lot of feedback,” said Minichino.

Flanker Kitchen and Sporting Club is a multi-concept complex with a casual restaurant, three bars, private karaoke and sports simulator rooms, a nightclub, and a cocktail lounge.

“Given that we’ve been away from so many restrictions or things you can’t do for a year… we’re actually seeing a huge response. From people who want to get out again, ”said Minichino.

Entertainers are especially excited to be back on stage, as is The Rubies lead singer Aubrey Aucleir.

“I definitely forgot that I was a performer just because I was always sitting in my room, writing music, not singing it for anyone, and then ‘Oh, I can do shows again!'” She said.

Downtown Salt Lake City has celebrated New Year’s Eve under a variety of names for the past ten years, but this year “Last Hurray” is already its fifth year and a year of gratitude is a little more normal.
