“Alaskan Fire” stops traffic in the Ogden Gorge

WEBER COUNTY, Utah – The Alaska fire that broke out Wednesday night paralyzed traffic in Ogden Canyon.

Ogden Canyon Road is closed in both directions from the mouth of the canyon to Pineview Reservoir. The fire burns on the south side of the road in steep, rugged terrain, making it difficult for crews to fight the fire.

The fire was estimated at 2.5 hectares at 8.45 p.m. on Wednesday. Structures were threatened with the first update, but are no longer threatened.

State Route 39 in the Ogden Gorge is closed between mile posts nine and 14 as crews work to contain the fire. It is not known when the road will be released again.

Over 9,000 Rocky Mountain Power customers have also faced power outages in the area. According to their power outage map, the expected recovery is sometime before 1 a.m. on Thursday.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
