Arthur Ouzounian

1928-2021

Arthur Ouzounian

Arthur Ouzounian was born on March 9, 1928 in Aleppo, Syria, to Ruben Ouzounian and Mary Bozoglanian. In 1950, at the age of 21, he emigrated to Utah with 3 siblings to look for a better life. In 1955, his parents, sister, and youngest brother miraculously joined them, where they were all together to practice their faith and freely worship.

Arthur’s grandfather began a legacy when he was baptized as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, making Arthur a 3rd generation member of the Church. The incredible battles, sacrifices, and myriad miracles of the Ouzounian pioneers resulted in a deep conversion in Arthur that would never let up. Arthur’s legacy of ministry began at an early age when he spent countless hours in missionary service bringing faith and hope to others. Prior to leaving for the United States, Arthur served as a counselor in the Aleppo Branch to bless the lives of the members there.

In 1955 Arthur met Sylvia Dahlstrom from Kalmar Sweden, who had emigrated to Utah that same year. Their faith brought them together, and they were married forever on March 29, 1957 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They started their journey in Salt Lake City and settled in Bountiful where they would raise their 2 boys and 2 girls. Together with his wife Arthur founded their A&R Trucking business, which they ran together until 1997. Arthur was a hard worker and made a point of teaching his children the same thing. He did almost all of his truck repairs and was able to fix anything. He was persistent and creative and never gave up until the task at hand was completed. He always paid tribute to the Lord for his successes and continually taught his children to see blessings that were coming in abundance.

Arthur’s membership in the Church meant everything to him. His love for the Lord was evident in everything he did. Together with his wife and children, they were called to the Swedish branch for over 17 years. He served as an ordination worker at Bountiful Temple throughout his life and held several Church callings. Arthur served several stake missions and, with his wife, a mission to the Stockholm Temple from 1995 to 1997, which he held in high regard and which was a highlight of his life. Arthur put God first and not a day went by without expressing his faith, whether through words or deeds.

Arthur loved fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was known for his meticulous gardens that he would share with everyone. He prayed for his gardens, which kept yielding bountiful crops that he freely gave to those in need. Not only have his gardens blessed many, but his life was also full of charity for those who struggled and were in need. Arthur and his wife spent countless hours over the years working with food supplies and homeless shelters to provide resources and help to ensure bellies were full. Always concerned for the poor and needy, he would give anything to help and improve the situation of others. Arthur clearly understood charity as he was constantly studying the scriptures and learning from the Master. He lived a life dedicated to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. He was close to the Lord and prayed daily for opportunities to be led to the needy, whom he could help or serve in some way. Arthur was a true Christian as he tried to follow and honor the Savior by listening to promptings and taking action to do his work. He had a giant’s faith and was not afraid to share his faith and testimony. Arthur leaves a legacy of faith that has greatly influenced his family and the countless people he has helped, served and loved. He will not be forgotten and will be in our hearts forever.

Arthur preceded his parents and brothers Samuel, Albert, George and sisters Angela and Josephine in death. He leaves behind his wife Sylvia, daughter Monica (Karl Erik) Forsman, son Artine (Tina) Ouzounian, daughter Sonya (Jon) Jarrett and son Daniel (Andrea) Ouzounian as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

We will honor Arthur with a funeral service on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Val Verda 3rd Ward, 2651 South 500 West in Bountiful, where friends will be visited from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. beforehand can to services. Salt Lake City Cemetery.
