Bats remain silent after the first inning in the loss of the Ogden Raptors in Boise | Ogden raptors

Christian Funk scored two home runs and the Boise Hawks beat the Ogden Raptors 8-2 in a Sunday night Independence Day matchup in Boise.

Ogden (25-13) saw his lead in the Pioneer League South Division shrink to 4.5 games with 10 games remaining when Grand Junction (20-17) beat Rocky Mountain 14-13 in a Sunday marathon that approached 5 hours .

The Raptors take on Boise (15-22) in a rubber match to end the series at 7:15 pm on Monday, then travel home to open a home stand for six games against Missoula on Wednesday.

Ogden scored his runs in the first inning on Sunday. Josh Broughton scored in singles, Pavin Parks doubled him, David Maberry scored in Parks and the Raptors took a 2-0 lead.

But Ogden didn’t score any more in the opening frame, even though he had runners in second and third places with one out and the bases were loaded with two outs. The Raptors scored just six hits in the last eight innings, after four in the first.

Boise got everything it needed in the second inning when Jason Dicochea led to a 3-2 lead in two runs. The Hawks only used two pitchers to win: Jayce Vancena gave up two runs and eight hits over six innings, and Jared Price gave up two hits in three goalless innings.

Funk pulled the game down with a three-run homer in the fourth game to make it 7-2 and Boise put the icing on the cake in seventh place with a solo shot.

Tate Budnick took the loss to Ogden and gave up seven runs in four innings. Andrew Fernandez pitched two innings and gave up the solo homer. Cory Wills, an outfielder who started the season on Ogden’s roster but was later released, was re-signed on Sunday and pitched the last two innings, gave up a hit, hit two, and hit the minimum by one Double play induced.

Raul Shah led Ogden on the plate, hitting 3 for 4 with two doubles.
