Salt Lake City, Utah – The Oregon state softball team split the double header in Utah on Friday and won the first game 7-1 before falling 8-3 in the second game.

Frankie Hammoude exploded with three home runs over the course of the two competitions, bringing them to 16 longballs in the season. Chance Burden scored three hits in the course of the double header.

The state of Oregon is now between 7 and 26 p.m. each year.

Game 1 – Oregon State 7, Utah 1

The state of Oregon started four home runs, including two Hammoude explosions, when the first game of the double header was played. Hammoude has blown their 14th and 15th homers of the season, finishing the game with three RBIs. Madison Simon and Missy Nunes both hit the competition, while Burden went 2-3 with an RBI.

Nerissa Eason allowed only one run in seven innings of work, closed Utah for the final six frames, and conceded just four hits over the course of the competition.

The state of Oregon wasted no time getting things going when Simon led the first game with a solo shot. Utah evened the score at the bottom of the frame, but Nunes responded with a solo homer of their own to get things going in round two.

The beavers attacked two more in the fourth. Nunes started the frame with a stroll before Charity Sevaaetasi brought a couple on board. Grace Messmer got away with one victim before Burden made another victim to bring Nunes home. Sevaaetasi scored a pass shortly thereafter to bring the state of Oregon 4-1 to fifth.

Hammoude took it from there and shot a solo homer in the fifth, followed by a two-run shot in the seventh to give the Beavers a 7-1 win.

Game 2 – Utah 8, Oregon State 3

A big first inning gave the Utes a game two win.

Hammoude returned again and Messmer and Burden both recorded doubles, but the Beavers failed to beat a seven-time Utah first inning.

Mariah Mazon hit six in five and a third inning of work, bringing her season to 199 strikes total.

The state of Oregon jumped forward again in game two when Simon left before Mazon hit them with a double that narrowly missed the court. Utah responded with a seven at the bottom of the frame to take the lead.

The load doubled in the second run but was stranded in third place. Utah added another run in the fifth.

The Beavers started a rally in the sixth when Hammoude buckled on their third homer of the day to cut the advantage to six. Burden drove Nunes home with a double and Oregon State cornered the runners with two failures, but Utah was able to limit the damage when the OSU went down 8-3. Utah was able to finish the game from there and won by five.

The Beavers will end the regular season on Saturday when they finish their streak against Utah at 11 a.m. PT.
