Beverly Jean Porter Lord
Beverly Jean Lord, 71, died peacefully on October 18, 2021 of heart failure due to pulmonary hypertension. She was surrounded by her loving family and was spirited until her last moments on earth. She spent her final weeks awaiting royal treatment, often joking that she deserved the best because she was “on her deathbed”. All of her wishes were promptly and happily granted by each of her loyal subjects who was closest to him.
Beverly was born on March 15, 1950, to Kenneth Carr and Lula Garnet (Beck) Porter of Ogden, Utah, to one of eight children. Beverly was one of seven sisters and a lonely – and long-suffering – brother. The porter house was full of love and laughter. Beverly remained closely associated with her parents and siblings throughout her life, and her sisters were among her closest friends. Each of them joked that they could talk for hours, and Beverly and Becky proved it on a road trip when they were surprised they were “already” in Las Vegas.
Beverly worked for the Ogden IRS for many years. The IRS became a small family business because Beverly and her parents all worked there. Kenneth and Lula introduced Beverly to their everlasting treasure, Galen Lord. Beverly and Galen were married on May 17, 1974 at the Ogden Utah Temple and soon had four children, two girls, then two boys.
The Lords were longtime residents of Plain City, Utah. Beverly loved raising her children surrounded by friends and family. She taught her children to appreciate hard work and led them by tireless example. Each of them has fond memories of working in the garden, canning vegetables, and independence day in a small town.
She loved gardening and could be found outside from sunrise to sunset in spring, summer, and fall. She was particularly fond of her rose bushes and irises and spent countless hours tending them.
Beverly loved spending time with her family. She looked forward to the traditional family celebrations every year and hosted the Memorial Day BBQ / volleyball shindig. She enjoyed spending time at the bowling alley and passionately cheering her children on at their league and tournament games, which often turned into family vacations.
Beverly’s wedding cakes were famous. She was the unofficial neighborhood and family cake lady and loved to spend time baking and decorating elaborate creations. She was proud to have baked wedding cakes for each of her children.
Beverly was a valiant member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served many callings. She valued her membership and spent hours studying the scriptures, especially later in life. Beverly spent many hours surrounded by music and loved listening to the Tabernacle Choir in Temple Square.
Beverly spent the last few years of her life in Avamere at Mountain Ridge in assisted living. She has made many close friends among the staff and residents and will be fondly remembered by everyone she has met. She became a confidante of those around her and had a kind word for everyone.
Beverly leaves behind her children Gina (Vince) Brewer, Aaron (Aubrey) Lord and Brison (Kathi) Lord; Grandchildren Jonathan & Lydia Brewer, Catherine & Christopher Lord and Jefferi Lord; her sisters Nancy Heywood, Karen Porter, Becky (Rich) McKay, Renae Thompson, and Deanna (Rick) Bone; and many other loving family and friends.
Her husband Galen, their little daughter Jodi, their parents Kenneth & Lula Porter, their brother Roger Porter, their sister Rilla Marie (Porter) Gardner and their in-laws Gene & Aline (Maw) Lord preceded them in death.
The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Avamere at Mountain Ridge for assisted living and inspiration, with special thanks to Alisha Richins, Debbie Johnson, Tammy Reynolds & Alisha Behling for their friendship and loving care.
A viewing is scheduled for Monday, October 25, 2021, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Leavitt’s Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. with the burial in Plain City Cemetery.
