Big second half propels no. 4 Hawks to district title – Newton Daily News

OGDEN — It took a few quarters to get going, but Lynnville-Sully’s football team pulled away from Ogden on Friday night.

The Class A No. 4 Hawks used a big second half to clinch their second straight District 6 championship.

LS led 13-7 at halftime but used a 27-0 second half to run away with a 40-7 road win over the Bulldogs.

Corder Noun Harder rushed for 226 yards and scored two touchdowns and the Hawks got a career night from quarterback Lannon Montgomery.

The Hawks’ threw for a season-high in passing yards and Conner Maston, Caleb Rea and Noun Harder all caught long touchdown passes.

Montgomery finished 6-of-10 through the air for a career-high 178 yards and a career-best four TDs. He also rushed for a 1-yard TD in the second quarter.

The Hawks (7-0 overall, 5-0 in the district) opened the scoring with a 47-yard touchdown pass from Montgomery to Maston with 3:05 to play in the first.

Ogden took a small lead with his lone touchdown early in the second, but Montgomery’s rushing score put the Hawks in front for good.

In the third, Montgomery hooked up with Rea for a 45-yard TD.

The 21-0 fourth included a Noun Harder 67-yard TD run and a pair of Montgomery touchdown passes. The first TD pass went for 31 yards to Maston and the second was a 40-yard TD strike to Noun Harder.

Noun Harder’s 226 rushing yards came on 25 carries. CJ Nikkel also has 22 rushing yards.

Maston finished with four catches for 93 yards and a TD and the Hawk defense registered five interceptions, two fumble recoveries and four sacks.

Lynnville-Sully held Ogden (5-2, 4-2) to 80 rushing yards.

Kyle Squires led the defense with 13 tackles. Lane Fisk added nine tackles and one sack, Bryce Richards finished with six tackles, one sack and one interception and Keegan DeWitt snagged two interceptions.

Nikkel tallied one interception and one sack, Maston added six tackles and one fumble recovery and Noun Harder and Dawson James each registered five tackles.

Jager Huyser added one sack, Tyson Jansen recovered a fumble and Terran Gosselink collected one interception.

The Hawks last were 7-0 in 2017. They will try to record an undefeated regular season when they host Belle Plaine this week in Sully.
