Clairiere and Malahtaat prep for Shuvee

The first- and second-place finishers in the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps, Clairiere and Malathaat, worked Sunday morning, setting the stage for their likely rematch in the $200,000, Grade 2 Shuvee next Sunday.

Two-time Grade 1 winner Clairiere (2022 Ogden Phipps and 2021 Cotillion) worked four furlongs in 48.90 seconds at Saratoga, the fourth fastest of 36 works at the distance. 

In her last start, she battled Malathaat to the wire, beating that rival out to win the Ogden Phipps going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Belmont Park for trainer Steve Asmussen.

Winner of three Grade 1 races in 2021 – the Alabama, the Kentucky Oaks, and the Ashland – Malathaat worked four furlongs in 49.20 seconds for trainer Todd Pletcher at Saratoga Sunday morning. Listed out in a second grouping of 113, her work was the 44th fastest at the distance.
