Driver charged after killing Salt Lake City doctor in crash

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – A man who police said killed a doctor in Salt Lake City while driving while under the influence of drugs was charged on Tuesday.

Police identify a man who was killed in a crash at Sugar House on Friday

Mitchell Garret Solstad, 26, is charged with manslaughter, reckless driving, drug possession, driving without insurance, driving without a license and driving with expired vehicle registration, according to the indictment.

According to the December 4 indictment, Solstad reportedly hit a car that was stopped at a traffic light and drove off. The driver Solstad met drove after him and saw Solstad see a stop sign on E. Bryan Ave. 110 drove and hit another vehicle driven by Dr. Arthur Miller (55) was driven.

Investigators found that Solstad was traveling at 52-54 mph when he crashed into Miller’s car.

Miller was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Solstad was rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The loading documents said that the impact of the accident forced Solstad’s car on its side and resulted in drug paraphernalia falling out of the car.

A blood test was later done on Solstad and found that he had methamphetamine and THC in his system.
