Drug investigation leads to robbery and arrest on East Ogden Street in Girardville

A month-long investigation into suspected drug activity in the Girardville district resulted in an arrest Thursday morning.

Girardville Police Chief Fred Lahovski said a search warrant was carried out early Thursday at 204 and 206 East Ogden Street on the second floor with the help of local, state and state law enforcement agencies.

Lahovski said the investigation began a month earlier when complaints in the neighborhood reported abnormally high levels of traffic in and out of the apartment.

The investigation, which included confidential informants and surveillance, found that methamphetamine was being sold from the residence.

As a result of the search warrant, 28-year-old Zachary Thomas Cyr was taken into custody of possession with the intention of delivering a controlled substance. Cyr was charged before Judge Stephen Bayer and jailed in Schuylkill County Jail, where he was unable to bail him for $ 50,000.

Another man was also taken into custody because he had an arrest warrant for him in Northumberland County.

Girardville Police Department assisted the State Police Special Emergency Response Team, Ashland Police, Frackville Police, West Mahanoy Police, Shenandoah Police and Schuylkill County Drug Task Force Thursday morning.
