Eight Tigerhawks deserve all district football recognition – Newton Daily News

A pair of Colfax mingo football players ended their high school careers on a grand scale last season.

And a certain underclassmen seems ready for a special finish.

Seniors Cole Bracewell and Shane Aikin crowned their preparatory careers with a first-team nod that spanned all districts. This Tigerhawk duo in the first team of Class A District 6 included Curtis Horras in his second year, who earned the honor of both wide receiver and kicker.

Senior wide receivers Justin Myers and Colton Lind and second defensive back Trey Hockemeier were the selection of the second team, while Senior Grant Alexander and Merritt McConeghey were the honorable mentions in the sophomore year.

All district honors are based only on statistics within the district game.

Bracewell led Class A District 6 with 1,336 yards and 13 touchdown passes. He was 109 out of 165 through the air and threw five interceptions.

Bracewell was also 10th in the district with 292 rushing yards and eighth with five rushing TDs.

Aikin had his best season in a Tigerhawk uniform as a member of the offensive line. The CM offensive threw 1,340 yards for a district best and scored 19 offensive TDs, finishing in fifth place.

Horras has shown what the district has to defend over the next two years. He was third in the district with 24 catches, second with 540 yards, and first with six receive TDs. Its average of 22.5 yards per catch also topped the district.

As the unanimous first-team kicker, Horras scored a 22-yard field goal and was 14 of 15 in extra points.

Myers and Lind have also been productive as receivers.

Myers ranked seventh in the district with 17 catches but was fourth with 219 yards. He also finished second with four TD catches averaging 13.7 yards per catch.

Lind finished fourth with 23 catches and 157 yards.

Hockemeier had 22 1/2 tackles in the district game.

Alexander was also part of CM’s offensive line. As a defensive lineman, he had 12 tackles, 2 sacks, and 5 tackles for the loss.

McConeghey finished with 25 1/2 tackles and two fumble recoveries as one of CM’s linebackers.
