Groveport Madison Schools’ Garilee Ogden named superintendent at Reynoldsburg City Schools

Reynoldsburg City Schools announced May 24 that Garilee Ogden will be the next superintendent, pending board approval.

Ogden currently is superintendent at Groveport Madison Schools and will replace Melvin Brown, who is leaving for Montgomery Public Schools in Montgomery, Alabama. She has 21 years of education experience and is a doctoral candidate in educational administration at Ohio State.

“Garilee Ogden impressed the board with her academic and curriculum background, her passion for fostering meaningful relationships, and her desire to always put children first,” board president Debbie Dunlap said in a district news release. “She has a strong background in developing a supportive and thriving culture in her school district, which allows for educators to educate and students to grow and flourish.

“Her leadership has allowed staff members in Groveport Madison to address the whole child, fostering life-long discovery and cultivating a positive learning environment for all in an equitable and empathetic manner. Her work addressing mental health and mindset challenges in both students and staff is a testament to her dedication to ensuring a climate of culture and well-being in everything we do.”

Ogden was one of two finalists interviewed May 23 by the board and other community groups. Columbus City Schools area superintendent Corey Grubbs was the other.

A special board meeting will be held May 26 to determine Ogden’s anticipated start date, the district said.
