Ogden 31, Providence Hall 21
Chino Furniss threw three touchdowns — two to Kire Thompson — as the Tigers beat Providence Hall for their first win of the season. Providence Hall led 14-7 midway through the second quarter, but Furniss connected with Thompson twice in the final two minutes to give Ogden a 21-14 halftime lead, a lead it never relinquished in the second half.
Layton Christian 60, Ben Lomond 6
Jessaia Moala ran for three touchdowns, which Ilai Jared Tagidugu scored on a pair of interception returns as Layton Christian improved to 2-0 as it continues to be one of the surprise teams early in the 2021 season.
Carbon 41, Cottonwood 34
Keaton Rich scored three times, including a 70-yard touchdown run, as Carbon edged Cottonwood in an entertaining, high-scoring preseason game.
West Jordan 26, Davis 14
A one-possession ball game late in the fourth quarter, West Jordan’s Kyle Curtis picked off Davis’ Easton Baggett and took the ball to the house, icing the game and giving the Jaguars a narrow win over the Darts.
Gunnison Valley 42, Monticello 28
Jake Hansen had a passing, rushing, and receiving touchdown in the first quarter as Gunnison Valley’s quick start led them to a win over the Buckaroos. The game was a shootout between two great offenses that combined to throw four touchdowns over 40 yards.
Millard 41, Kanab 27
Trading blows throughout the game, it was a 14-point advantage in the fourth quarter that separated Millard and Kanab after the two teams were tied through the first three periods. James Stephenson and Dakota Maxfield scored the two fourth quarter touchdowns for the Eagles.
Jordan 56, Taylorsville 7
The Beetdiggers literally ran all over the field Friday night. Jordan scored all eight of its touchdowns on the ground in its dominating win over Taylorsville. Jamarcus Smith personally punched in four of Jordan’s eight rushing scores.
Herriman 32, West 20
Jack White threw three touchdown passes as Herriman built a 27-14 halftime lead and never looked back. After West had cut the lead to 20-14 midway through the second quarter, White connected with Michael Falatea on a 74-yard TD pass with 5:21 remaining in the half, a two-score cushion that it padded in the third quarter.
Viewmont 38, Hillcrest 0
The Vikings jumped out to an early lead and never looked back en route to the shutout victory over Hillcrest. Quarterback Luke Jacobs rushed for a TD and found Cole Mudrow for a another while Elias Uesele ran for another two scores in the win.
Mountain Ridge 56, Granger 12
The game was essentially over at halftime, as Mountain Ridge had a seven touchdown lead at the midway point of the game. Quarterback Ayden Helm thrived for the Sentinels, throwing four touchdowns and rushing for another all before the halftime whistle.
Bountiful 21, Farmington 17
Though Farmington finished the game strong, Bountiful started the game stronger with a 14-point advantage in the opening quarter. Max Barker tossed two touchdown passes helping the Redhawks defeat their former region opponent.
Wasatch 51, Mountain Crest 3
Trailing after the first quarter and leading only by four points at halftime, quarterback Adarius Edwards and the Wasatch Wasps erupted for 44 second half points. Edwards finished the game with a staggering total of seven touchdown passes, helping the Wasps secure what ended up being a comfortable win over Mountain Crest.
Olympus 33, Hunter 0
The Titans defense was suffocating Friday night, shutting out the Wolverines offense while putting points on the board themselves, with defensive touchdowns from Mason Smith (interception return) and Matt Herron (fumble recovery). Offensively, Ryan Reynard had two total touchdowns for Olympus.
Hurricane 43, American Leadership 14
Hurricane jumped all over American Leadership, racing to a 33-0 halftime lead on its way to the easy nonregion victory. Carter Ashby led the way offensively with four touchdown passes, two each to Nifai Iloa and RJ Wright.
Fremont 14, Roy 3
Kyler Kotter scored twice for Fremont, on a 96-yard kick return and on a 21-yard run, as the Silverwolves edged rival Roy in a defensive slugfest. Fremont bounced back from a Week 1 shutout loss to Skyridge by holding Roy to just 211 yards of total offense. Kotter finished with 7 catches for 102 yards to go along with his rushing touchdown and return TD. His kickoff return for a touchdown opened the third quarter scoring after a scoreless first half.
Riverton 16, Dixie 13
Riverton drew first blood with an early field goal, but Dixie took the lead with two back-to-back touchdowns, including an 84-interception return from Shea Anderson. In the third quarter, Riverton’s Jake Meyers found Mason Dunfield for a touchdown and teammate Sau Tafisi rushed for another to give the Silverwolves a narrow lead. A tough defensive battle prevented either team from scoring in the final session, and Riverton walked away with the hard-fought three-point victory at home.
Enterprise 21, South Sevier 13
Jaden Drake scored two touchdowns in the final four minutes of the first half to help Enterprise flip seven point deficit into a seven point lead by halftime. Matthew Ramos would run for a touchdown of his own to push the lead to 13. South Sevier would make a strong rally, cutting the lead to just six points early in the 4th quarter with a Braxton Price touchdown run, but they couldn’t find the end zone again as the Wolves escaped with a road victory.
Lone Peak 31, Alemany, Calif. 24
Lone Peak picked up a big win over the Warriors from Alemany, California. Alemany came in ranked as a top 10 team in the state but an impactful first half led the Knights to the victory. Easton Comer threw two touchdown passes, a 50-yarder to Luke Durfey and a later a 30-yarder to Tyler Bilbro to give Lone Peak a 31-10 lead. After Comer’s first touchdown throw, Lone Peak recovered the kickoff in the end zone to go up 14-0 before the Warriors even had a chance to get the offense on the field.
Bingham 45, Bishop Manogue, Nev. 0
Bingham jumped all over Bishop Manogue, Nev. in a 45-0 win. Dallen Martinez had two rushing touchdowns and Luke Wilson had two receiving touchdowns.
Orem 68, Mountain View 0
A 33-point second quarter set the tone in Orem’s 68-0 blowout win over crosstown rival Mountain View. Chase Tuatagaloa threw two touchdown passes for the Tigers, who scored in all phases in the win. Mack Hixson added a 98-yard kickoff return to open the third quarter, with River Matthews scoring on a 12-yard fumble recovery less than a minute later.
Milford 46, Rich 7
Milford earned their first victory of the season with a monster first half against the Rebels. The Tigers roared to five first half touchdowns, including on a kickoff return from Blake Barnes on the first play of the game. Bo Hardy was responsible for the other four scores. He tossed three scores—including two to Barnes—and ran for another. Barnes would return the favor in the third quarter when he hit Hardy for a 38-yard touchdown. Rich’s points came from a Hunter Pace pass to Riley Carrillo early in the fourth quarter.
North Sevier 20, Richfield 14
Kannin Boswell’s 2-yard run with 2:10 remaining in the game sealed the win for North Sevier, as it edged nearby Richfield in an impressive win over a 3A program. Nathan Snyder had two touchdown runs for the Wolves, who improved to 2-0 with the win.
Timpanogos 51, Grand 6
Timpanogos scored points in a plethora of ways Friday night. A kick return touchdown on the opening kickoff, a pick six and a fumble recovery were just some of the ways the Timberwolves put points on the board in a 34-point first quarter explosion that paved they way for their 45 point victory over Grand.
Logan 50, Juan Diego 21
The Grizzlies scored four touchdowns in the second quarter as they dominated their way to a convincing win over the Soaring Eagle. Kody Kirk threw for six touchdown passes and two two-point conversions in the win. Gage Jenson and Jaelin Hoth each caught a pair of scores. Juan Diego was able to find the end zone threw a valiant run game that featured three touchdown runs.
Lehi 30, Salem Hills 7
Scoreless through the first 18 minutes of the game, the Pioneers found their grove, scoring 30 unanswered to cruise to a Friday night win over Salem Hills. Kadiyon Sweat scored two touchdowns for Lehi, a 2-yard run and 65-yard reception.
Duchesne 34, Parowan 13
Duchesne got out to a 21-0 lead, which proved to be too much for Parowan. Parker Crum threw two touchdown passes for the Eagles.
San Juan 48, Summit Academy 29
San Juan quarterback Jace Palmer threw four touchdown passes as San Juan scored 34 second-half points to beat Summit Academy and bounce back from a rough week 1 performance against 4A’s Desert Hills. Ladd Ivins hauled in two of Palmer’s touchdowns as San Juan scored the first 21 points coming out of halftime trailing 16-14.
Desert Hills 38, Cedar Valley 7
Awsten Turbow caught two touchdown passes to help lead Desert Hills over Cedar Valley. Eric Olsen and Lincoln Holmes also caught scores from Noah Fualietolo, who finished with four touchdowns. The game was tied after the first quarter, but a 31-0 run in the middle quarters led to the road team separating for the victory.
Delta 14, Manti 7
After the first quarter, where both teams scored a touchdown, points were hard to come by in this Friday night matchup between the Templars and the Rabbits. But it was a 1-yard touchdown run by Josh Jackson midway through the third quarter that separated Delta from Manti as the clock hit zero.
Clearfield 27, Bear River 14
Clearfield stormed back from a 14-0 deficit, scoring 27 straight points to close out the game for its first win of the season. Shaydn Stoker threw three touchdown passes, including two to Josh Qualls in the fourth quarter. Alec Callister scored both of Bear River’s touchdowns, the second of which came midway through the third quarter to give the Bears a 14-0 lead at the 6:44 mark of the third quarter.
Sky View 28, Bonneville 18
Sky View was down 12-7 late in the third quarter before three touchdowns in a five minute span flipped the game and the road team left with a win. First, Garrett Zollinger threw a touchdown pass to Jackson Sundstrom and then Reed Wilde rushed for two scores. The Lakers would score on a 42-yard touchdown pass from Koy Dixon to Max Diaz but they just didn’t have enough time to rally back. Sky View improves to 2-0 with the win.
Provo 34, Box Elder 17
The Bulldogs were up 7-3 when they threw a pick-six to Cole Mortensen, who returned it 55 yards for the score. However, Provo rallied quickly to score two touchdowns before adding another one coming out of halftime and running away with the lead for good. Feitagai Lesa had the first two scores for Provo while Jace Welsch had the final two. In all the Bulldogs had five rushing touchdowns, three of which were over 35 yards long.
Payson 23, Canyon View 0
Payson shutout the Falcons with a balanced scoring attack and elite play from their defense. Kelton Smith opened the scoring with a run in the first quarter before Luke Ivers extended the lead with two touchdown passes in the middle of the game. Dylan Wall and Cooper Swasey were the receivers of the scores as Payson improved to 2-0
Murray 42, Copper Hills 14
After conceding a touchdown to Copper Hills early in the first quarter, Murray ripped off 34 unanswered points to cruise to a comfortable win Friday night. Kade Scott got the Spartans on the board in the first quarter with a 45-yard touchdown return after recovering a Grizzlies fumble.
White Pine, Nev. 24, Judge Memorial 22
Too little, too late for Judge as it was defeated by out-of-state foe White Pine High School. Trailing by 10 points, Conner Marland found Isaiah Hemmings for a touchdown with 18 seconds left in the game. Hemmings caught a two-point conversion pass to cut the lead to two, but White Pine saw the remainder of the game out.
Layton 41, Northridge 19
The battle for the city of Layton was won convincingly by the Lancers, as they dismantled Northridge Friday night. Quarterback Garrett Gifford tossed two touchdown passes for Layton.
Westlake 27, Alta 13
After falling behind 13-0 late in the second quarter, Westlake showed great resilience the rest of the game to rally for the 27-13 victory. Drake Youngberg scored on an important rushing touchdown just before halftime to give Westlake momentum, with Kanyon Lee then adding two rushing scores in the second half as the Thunder pulled away.
Pleasant Grove 34, Maple Mountain 33
Pleasant Grove rallied back from a 13-0 deficit to edge Maple Mountain for the thrilling 34-33 victory as the Vikings scored 14 unanswered points in the second half. EJ Hoover scored what proved to be the winning touchdown on a 5-yard TD run with 9:20 left in the fourth quarter. Jaeden Wright led the way offensively for Pleasant Grove rushing for 101 yards and three touchdowns.
Uintah 28, Union 21
In a wild finish in the Uintah Basin rivalry game, Easton Taylor returned an interception 27 yards for a touchdown with 24 seconds left in the game as Uintah edged the Cougars for the win. Jace Evans rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown to lead the way offensively for Uintah.
Crimson Cliffs 25, Spanish Fork 22
Spanish Fork scored 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Crimson Cliffs, which scored 18 unanswered spanning the second and third quarters to open up the 18-point cushion heading into the fourth quarter. Chase Hansen rushed for a pair of touchdowns to lead the way offensively from Crimson Cliffs, which also scored a defensive touchdown.
Beaver 20, Grantsville 14
Beaver improved to 2-0 with a hard-fought defensive victory over Grantsville. Conner Crum provided the big play defensively for Beaver, returning an interception for a touchdown in the second quarter to give the Beavers the 12-7 lead. Cobe Carter extended the lead to 20-7 in the third quarter hauling in a Tyten Fails touchdown pass, a lead Beaver’s defense didn’t relinquish as the Beavers extended their winning streak to 29 straight.
Snow Canyon 20, Morgan 7
Snow Canyon quarterback Hunter Johnson completed 20 of 29 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns, and he also rushed for 87 yards as Warriors overcame a 7-6 halftime deficit to rally past visiting Morgan for the win. Drake Kelly, Braydon Jones and Kyle Kennedy all recorded interceptions as the Warriors came up with timely turnovers when they needed them.
Juab 29, Cedar City 28
Cedar City’s Benjamin Ellis scored the go-ahead touchdown run with 1:07 left in the game, but it was short-lived celebration as Juab quarterback Alex Jackson connected with Wesley Nielsen for a game-winning 29-yard touchdown pass with 15 seconds remaining as the Wasps improved to 2-0 this season. Payton Park provided a big special teams score for Juab in the second quarter returning a punt 65 yards for a touchdown.
Pine View 35, Highland 0
Pine View made the trip up north and secured a convincing shutout win over Highland. Turner Williams set the tone early for the Panthers with a 95-yard kick return touchdown on the game’s opening kickoff. Pine View had two different quarters throw for over 125 yards and a touchdown — Abe Rosenlund and Sawyer Woods — while defensively the Panthers held Highland to just 169 yards. Highland was playing its first game of the season after last week’s game with Bountiful was canceled because of COVID-19.
Skyridge 49, Woods Cross 0
McCace Hillstead completed 21 of 30 passes for 284 yards and three touchdowns, one each to Teagen Calton, Ezekiel Greco and Cannon Jensen to lead Skyridge to its second-straight victory to start the season. Perhaps more impressively was the performance of Skyridge’s defense, which earned a second straight shutout to start the season.
South Summit 19, North Summit 6
South Summit broke open a 6-6 game with 13 points in the fourth quarter as Kyler Sudweeks and Treyton Sargent both found the end zone with rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter as the Wildcats improved to 2-0 on the season.
Tooele 41, Cyprus 0
Tooele demolished Cyprus to improve to 2-0 on the season led by Mateaki Helu who finished with a hat trick of rushing touchdowns. Will Kennedy came up with a big special teams touchdown in the second quarter as he scored on a blocked kick return that opened up a 21-0 halftime lead for the Buffaloes.
North Sanpete 27, Emery 0
Both sides of the ball did their jobs for North Sanpete in its convincing shutout win over Emery Friday night. Quarterback Landon Bowles tossed four touchdown passes on the night for the Hawks as he bounced back from a rough Week 1 performance.
American Fork 45, Weber 14
Another week, another statement made by the Cavemen as Maddux Madsen threw for four touchdowns and rushed for one more in the dominant victory over Weber. The Warriors were playing a top-ranked 6A opponent for the second straight week, and fell behind right away trailing 28-0 early in the second quarter and then 42-7 by halftime.
Green Canyon 19, Park City 17
Jack Stevens threw a touchdown pass and rushed for a touchdown and Caleb Naegle made two field goals as Green Canyon beat Park City.
Ridgeline 42, Stansbury 14
Ridgeline’s 28-point first half led it to a win over the visiting Stansbury as it improved to 2-0 on the season. Kaden Cox threw for four touchdowns, all of which were for over 20 yards, including two to Jackson Olsen. Jaxson Hollingsworth added a special teams touchdown as he scored on a blocked kick just before halftime.
