Joan Wagstaff Browning Obituary (1942-2021) – Orem, UT

Joan Wagstaff Browning passed away unexpectedly on September 25, 2021 in Spokane, Washington, shortly after attending her sixtieth high school reunion. She and her identical twin Jane were born on March 29, 1942 in Havre, Montana, to the daughters of George and Laura Wagstaff.
At West Valley High School, Joan was a flautist, cheerleader, and student. Always balanced, Joan was voted the “most popular” and served as the best of her senior year. She was a BYU cougarette and received a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics in 1964.

On August 7, 1964, she married Gary Browning at the Idaho Falls Temple. They lived in New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Finland, and Russia. They settled in Provo, Utah, in 1976.

Joan loved beauty, be it needlework, sewing, or living. Throughout her life she became an excellent and productive quilt maker. She was a longtime member of the Utah Valley Quilt Guild. Joan was an excellent cook and loved discovering new recipes. Each of their children and grandchildren benefits from their skills. She loved Relief Society and was president three times. She and her husband headed the Russia Moscow Mission from 1990 to 1993. Her death is a peaceful incentive to join her in the heavenly kingdom.

She is survived by her dear husband, Gary Browning. She is also survived by her siblings: Frank (Jane) Wagstaff, Jennet Siniff, and Jane Shawen; her children: Deborah (James) Dixon, Steven Browning, Elizabeth Jensen, Kathryn (Mark) Keith, Jonathan (Diana) Browning; fourteen grandchildren; and a great grandson. Her parents and sibling William Wagstaff precede her in death.

The funeral will take place on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cascade Stake Center, 481 East Center Street, Orem, Utah. A tour of the stake center will take place before services on Thursday, September 30, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Burial, Provo City Cemetery.
