More live performances will open in downtown Salt Lake City, and the shows will have an impact on surrounding businesses.

The Eccles Theater is open for live performances. For many, a Saturday evening in the city, in the theater and with other people was a feeling they had forgotten.

“So excited. Finally be in town and have fun again,” said Shawna Love, who was at the Eccles Theater to see a performance of The Music of Andrew Lloyd Weber.

I’m excited. I live in Utah County and I feel like I haven’t left it in a year, ”said Nikki Ford, who attended the show.

They said they appreciate the arts even more after having renounced them for so long. Theaters that reopen are also triggering even more local deals.

“I thought I’d surprise them with tickets to the Eccles Theater. We haven’t been out in a year,” said Jeff Carleton, who took his wife Jennifer to the Beehive Pub across from the theater for a drink before the show.

Strom said with the theater, and Utah Jazz Games back, along with more people who are vaccinated, they hope to get numbers back to where they used to be.

Also across from the theater, the Uniquely Utah Souvenir, which opened about two months ago, was slow to open.

Definitely having the theater open and people getting more comfortable with vaccinations and other things, people, business has done really well, ”said Heather Maughan, general manager of Uniquely Utah Souvenir.

The downtown shops said they feed each other. The more live events are planned and more people are working in the city center again, the more companies will be stimulated.
