Major roads to the State Capitol close for the summer due to construction

SALT LAKE CITY – Drivers that use the State Street and North Temple intersection will need a new commute for the summer starting on Monday due to water line construction, according to the Salt Lake City Public Utilities website.

According to the website, the main water line is over 100 years old and needs to be replaced for upcoming infrastructure plans in the downtown area.

Crews will install new water lines, replace water meters, and work on the sewers.

They will be working on 200 N and Hillside Ave, from State Street to Main Street, according to the website.

This will affect traffic on:

  • State Street, between South Temple and 300 North
  • The Intersection of State Street and North Temple
  • And 200 North, between State Street and Main Street

Only local traffic can drive through these roads, according to officials.

SLC Public Utilities is expecting construction to end sometime in August 2022.
