Man arrested in shooting of 3 in Ogden on Sunday | News, Sports, Jobs

OGDEN — Ogden police on Thursday arrested a 19-year-old man suspected of shooting three people behind a downtown nightclub last weekend.

Marcellino McCain, of Ogden, faces four counts of felony discharge of a firearm in the 1:30 am Sunday incident in the 200 block of 25th Street — three for causing substantial bodily injuries and the fourth for shots that hit a car carrying the victims. The first three charges are first-degree felonies.

One man was hit in the abdomen, another in the head and the third in the lip, according to an Ogden Police Department arrest affidavit. One of the three was seriously injured but was expected to survive.

Initial police reports said two men were shot, but the arrest affidavit said the victim with the lip wound came forward later.

Police said McCain allegedly fired from an SUV that pulled around the business to where the victims had gotten into a car. Investigators said they traced the SUV to a home in the 200 block of Patterson Street. McCain was there but no arrests were made.

Over the next few days, investigators monitored phone calls between McCain’s roommate and another person who talked about McCain having allegedly “shot up” three people.

Officers served a warrant on McCain on Thursday. They said he waived his Miranda rights and told officers he had been at the club and there had been a confrontation with others. He said he thought one of the men was getting a gun, so he left. The arrest affidavit said police later reviewed a message thread in which McCain allegedly discussed the aftermath of the shooting with another person.

According to 2nd District Court records, McCain had been out on bail after a December arrest on narcotics and weapons charges. He was ordered held without bail on Friday at the Weber County Jail.
