Man is convicted of falsifying news, sports, jobs

Warren – A Youngstown man was sentenced to seven months in prison Monday after pleading guilty of attempted forgery.

Brandon M. Ogden, 24, of Coleman Drive was arrested on charges in 2019 of selling a smartphone online that was paid for with fake bills.

He pleaded guilty to an amended attempted forgery charge, with the petty theft charge dismissed. Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Peter J. Kontos abided by the terms of the plea, which sparked a lawsuit that was due to begin Monday.

The charges come from a case investigated by the Liberty Township Police Department over an incident outside of Walmart. According to a police report, the victims sold an Apple iPhone online and agreed to meet the buyer identified as Ogden, who paid for the item using an envelope with counterfeit currency.

Kontos asked the defendant to reimburse the victims with $ 175, the cost of the cell phone.

Records show that Ogden has been held in Trumbull County Jail since February 13 on various out-of-county and out-of-state arrest warrants.

Police reports said Ogden was involved in a similar $ 700 Apple iPhone online deal outside of Liberty Walmart on March 3, 2018, in which community police were investigating a man waving a gun in the air. In that case, Ogden pleaded guilty to panic in the Girard Municipal Court and received credit for 10 days in prison. In June, Ogden pleaded guilty to reduced charges of theft and received a 94 day jail sentence and a $ 388 fine, including legal costs.
