Monday News: Hammon Finalist for Blazers Head Coaching Vacancy, Salt Lake City Summer League Returns, and Draft Lottery Representative

Although it is the off-season, there was various news about the San Antonio Spurs on Monday. Let’s jump right into it.

Hammon is a finalist for Blazer’s Head Coaching vacancy

According to Athletic, Spurs Assistant Coach Becky Hammon is a finalist for the Portland Trail Blazers Head Coach position. This is the first time a woman has entered the final stages of the head coaching search process, according to Athletic.

ESPN.com reported that Hammon and Clippers assistant coach Chauncey Billups will have a second round of interviews with the Blazers while Net’s assistant coach Mike D’Antoni is also still in the mix.

Hammon has been an assistant coach at Spurs for the past seven seasons. She was also reportedly interviewed for the head coaching position at Orlando Magic this off-season and has had other head coaching interviews in previous off-seasons.

Salt Lake City Summer League returns

The Spurs are one of four teams to return to the Salt Lake City Summer League this August when the games take place on August 3rd, 4th and 6th. The Jazz will be represented by two teams, and the Spurs and Grizzlies will be the other two teams.

The Salt Lake City Summer League had to be canceled in the past off-season due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Peter J. Holt will represent Spurs at Draft Lottery

The NBA announced the 14 representatives for the draft lottery on Tuesday, and San Antonio Spurs’ new managing partner, Peter J. Holt, will represent the Spurs in the lottery.

The Spurs have an 85% chance of landing the number 12, a 1.7% chance of the number 1 overall pick, 1.9% of the number 2, 2.1% of the number 3, and a chance of 2.4% on the number 4 pick in the lottery on Tuesday.

The draft lottery will take place on Tuesday June 22nd at 7:30 p.m. CT on ESPN.
