Navajo Nation reports 53 new COVID-19 cases, 7 more deaths

The Navajo Nation has reported 53 new COVID-19 cases and seven more deaths.

The latest figures, released on Saturday, brought the Navajo nation’s total number to 32,907 cases and 1,414 known deaths since the pandemic began more than a year ago.

Tribal President Jonathan Nez urges residents not to leave the reservation over Labor Day weekend.

Nez previously said that all staff in the Navajo Nation’s executive branch must be fully vaccinated against the virus or undergo regular tests by the end of September.

The new rules apply to full, part-time, and temporary workers, including those who work for tribal businesses such as utilities, shopping malls, and casinos.
