Navajo Police Department responds to domestic violence incident

SALT LAKE CITY — On May 6, 2022, the Navajo Police Department Kayenta District responded to a call regarding a domestic violence incident with injuries.

Upon arrival, officers located a single victim. After being transported to a local hospital, she was flown out to a regional hospital. This was due to the severity of her injuries.

According to the Navajo Police Department, the suspect involved fled into a residence where officers attempted to make contact. Eventually, the suspect opened the door and met officers armed with a weapon. Then, officers deployed a department-issued taser.

Following, an officer-involved shooting occurred. Officers immediately rendered aid to the suspect but were unsuccessful. The suspect died as a result of his wounds.

The Navajo Police Department said details are limited at this time. This incident has been referred to the Navajo Department of Criminal Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for further investigation.
