Next up in the Onstage Ogden series: contemporary dance, modern quartet | music

The soulful contemporary dance of SALT Contemporary Dance and the Grammy nominated PUBLIQuartet are next on the program in Onstage Ogden’s Downtown Series.

SALT Contemporary Dance plays “Spring 8” this Friday; The PUBLIQuartet will follow on June 10th.

On stage, Ogden kicked off the new series at The Monarch in the spring of 2020, expanding its program beyond Utah Symphony and major dance companies like Ballet West to reach new audiences and serve the ever-changing Ogden community. The non-profit organization promotes dance and classical music in the greater Ogden area with a small team of passionate art lovers who have great ambitions to bring the best national artists to Ogden.

Since early 2021, Onstage Ogden has brought a number of exceptionally high-profile performances by renowned artists Leonard Patton Trio, Time For Three, Dan Tepfer: Goldberg Variations, the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet and Invoke to The Monarch.

This Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Royal Room of The Monarch, SALT Contemporary Dance is bringing “Spring 8”, a soulful dance that “celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the beauty of battle,” with works that are cutting edge worldwide The choreographers Ihsan Rustm and Garrett Smith and the artistic director Joni McDonald’s are “When we are lost, we speak in flowers.” The innovative dance piece is described as “Hope and beauty in motion”.

SALT Contemporary Dance is a Utah non-profit organization founded in 2013 with a vision to “inspire and connect the emerging generation with course-changing experiences, education, and notoriety, and dance as an ointment for social plagues through interactive outreach programs.”

The PUBLIQuartet will bring its Grammy-nominated sounds from the worlds of jazz, electronics, rock and experimental music from New York City, where they are based, on June 10th.

Their website states: “The PUBLIQuartet is described by the Washington Post as the“ perfect encapsulation of today’s trends in chamber music ”and by The New Yorker as“ independent ”, giving the classical music scene a fresh and energetic voice … creative that interactive program presents contemporary works, original compositions and improvisations that expand the role of the string quartet. “

The group of three violinists and a cellist has many boastful successes. In 2019 the group received their first Grammy nomination for their second album “Freedom & Faith”. They stayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art from 2016-17, made their debut in a sold out Carnegie Hall, ran the Detroit Jazz Festival and improvised a “soundtrack” for the final presidential debate on “The Late Show” with Stephen Colbert. You are named “Third Presidential Debate Winner” by the Washington Post.

The members of the PUBLICQuartett are equally impressive. Curtis Stewart was a soloist with the National Repertory Orchestra at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. Jannina Norpoth, a soloist for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra at the age of 14, could be seen alongside Stevie Wonder, Beyonce and Anita Baker as well as part of the folk / rock duo HOLLANDS. Nick Revel is the founding member with a full-length album, “Letters to my Future Self”; and cellist Hamilton Berry has worked with well-known pop artists such as Vampire Weekend, Rostam, Björk, Debbie Harry, FUN., Cults and Becca Stevens.
