Oct 6 data: Nearly 2,000 new COVID-19 cases, 12 new deaths in Utah

The Utah Department of Health reported that nearly 2,000 new COVID-19 tests were positive out of the 11,613 tests done since Tuesday.

This is a dramatic increase in the number of cases, bringing the new total since the pandemic started to 516,748 COVID-19 infections in Utah.

Of the 1,975 new positive cases, 434 belong to school children.

Another 12 Utahners lost their lives to the virus, including a Duchesne County woman between the ages of 25 and 44. She was hospitalized at the time of her death.

The total number of hospital admissions since the outbreak began has exceeded more than 22,500. There are currently 575 people in Utah hospitals battling COVID-19.

THE UDOH REPORTS ON THE FOLLOWING WEDNESDAY:

Positive:

  • We will report 516,748 positive cases today. That’s an increase of 1,975 new cases since yesterday.

School-age cases:

  • 434 of the new cases reported today are in school-age children. As of yesterday, we will be reporting 187 cases in children aged 5 to 10 years, 106 cases in children aged 11 to 13 years and 141 cases in children aged 14 to 17 years.

Vaccinations:

  • We will report 3,525,706 total doses administered today. This is an increase of 10,124 doses since yesterday.

Vaccinated vs. unvaccinated risk ratio:

  • In the past 28 days, unvaccinated people had a 6.4 times higher risk of dying from COVID-19, 7 times higher risk of being hospitalized for COVID-19, and 6.3 times higher Risk of testing positive for COVID-19 as a vaccinated person.
  • As of February 1, 2021, unvaccinated people are 4 times more likely to die from COVID-19, 4.8 times more likely to be hospitalized for COVID-19, and 4 times more likely to test positive for COVID-19 as vaccinated people.

Laboratory tests:

  • We will report 3,505,637 people tested. This is an increase of 11,613 people tested since yesterday.
  • We will report a total of 6,309,135 tests. That’s an increase of 22,541 tests since yesterday.

Tendencies:

  • The 7-day rolling average for positive tests is 1,422 per day.
  • The 7-day rolling average for the percent positivity of “people over people” is 15.4%. The 7-day rolling average for percent positivity for “tests over tests” is 10.1%.

Hospital stays:

  • There are currently 575 people in the hospital with COVID-19. The total number of hospital admissions since the outbreak began is 22,514.

Deaths:

We will report a total of 2,974 deaths, that’s 12 new deaths since yesterday.

  • Male, between 65 and 84, residents of Sanpete County, hospitalized at the time of death
  • Male, between 45 and 64, Iron County, long-term care facility resident
  • Male, between 25 and 44, residents of Salt Lake County, hospitalized at the time of death
  • Female, between 25 and 44, resident of Duchesne County, hospitalized at death
  • Female, between 65 and 84, resident of Uintah County, hospitalized at death
  • Male, older than 85, Washington County resident, hospitalized at death
  • Male, between 45 and 64, residents of Tooele County, hospitalized at the time of death
  • Female, between 65 and 84, Davis County resident, hospitalized at death
  • Female, between 645 and 84, resident of Washington County, hospitalized at death
  • Male, older than 85, Weber County resident, unknown if hospitalized at the time of death
  • Male, older than 85, Utah County resident, unknown if hospitalized at death
  • Male, between 65 and 84, Utah County residents, unknown if hospitalized at death
