Red Cross to hold blood drive and disaster preparedness event

PROVO, Utah — The American Red Cross of Utah said it would partner with the City of Provo and other community partners to host a blood drive and disaster preparedness event in June. The organization said the event would help restock Utah’s blood supply and provide a learning opportunity to residents.

The event will be on June 6, from 2 pm to 8 pm at the Provo Seventh-day Adventist Church at 255 p. 700 E.

“Along with donating blood, participants have the opportunity to learn the latest hands-only CPR method and become ‘Red Cross Ready,’ by knowing how to prepare for disasters,” said Benjamin Donner, executive director of the American Red Cross of Central and southern Utah chapter.

To be “Red Cross Ready,” the organization encourages community members to follow three steps: “get a kit, make a plan, be informed.”

“Disasters can happen anywhere, anytime,” said Donner. “We urge people to prepare now and be ready if an emergency occurs in their home or in our local community. Helping people during disasters is at the heart of our mission.”

Provo’s fire and police departments will attend the event, which the organization said will allow the community to get to know its first responders.

Community members wanting to donate blood are asked to register online or call 1-800-RED CROSS and use the SAVELIVES sponsor code.
