Salt Lake City seeks feedback on how to improve Pioneer Park

Improvements that can be made include more community events, restrooms, concessions, and activities like a splash pad and pickle ball.

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) The new multipurpose field of Pioneer Park and the surrounding hiking trail were photographed on September 10, 2019. City officials seek feedback from the community when they begin planning upgrades for the park.

Salt Lake City is looking to redesign Pioneer Park, and officials are looking for community feedback as they start planning.

“Pioneer Park should play an integral role in downtown Salt Lake City and in the lives of the people who live, work and visit there by performing many functions that improve the quality of urban living in our growing downtown communities.” officials wrote in a press release.

To this end, the city is asking residents to conduct a survey about possible activities, design improvements, and new features they would like to see in Pioneer Park. The poll is open until July 21st. To participate, visit https://bit.ly/3gUTw40.

Pioneer Park Project officials will also attend several face-to-face events through July 14 to seek feedback from local residents. You will be at the food truck on Wednesdays from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and at the farmers’ market from 8:00 p.m. on Saturday until 1:00 p.m.

Some of the improvements officials are considering include:

  • A “comfort station” with toilets, an information kiosk and a parking station, historical signage and concessions.

  • Gear up for more community events – which means easier access for food trucks and farmers market vendors, for example, as well as opportunities for local music, yoga, and fitness events, as well as arts and cultural activities.

  • Activity rooms such as fitness stations, splash pads, pickle balls, bike polo, slacklining and more.

According to Monday’s press release, the goal of the park’s improvements is to “create an inclusive park that recognizes the rich history of Pioneer Park and the vibrant and diverse community it serves today,” a safe place for all ages and To create skills. promote the daily use of the park and mitigate climate change with the involvement of the local ecology.

The project is expected to complete the concept and design phase and receive permits in 2021 and then begin construction in 2022.
