VERNAL, Utah — A second person has tested positive for COVID-19 at Discovery Elementary School, according to Uintah School District officials.

The district issued a press release Saturday saying, “neither individual contracted the virus at the school and the two cases are unrelated, according to the TriCounty Health Department.”

Those who were in direct and prolonged contact with the two individuals were notified by the school’s principal.

The people who were not notified were told they did not have direct contact with either of the individuals who tested positive.

Officials did not say if it was a student or teacher.

TriCounty Health officials said individuals aged 25 and under currently account for 25.4 percent of all confirmed COVID-19 cases in the region.

Anyone who exhibits symptoms of COVID-19 — including a fever, cough, sore throat, difficulty breathing, etc. — was told to avoid contact with others and call your primary care provider immediately.
