The ninth annual Ogden Yoga Festival, a full-day celebration of yoga and community, will take place at The Monarch this year under new direction and with a stronger focus on Ogden.

Since Michelle Taylor’s health and wellness-inspired festival was founded in 2012, its directors and locations have changed several times, but the shared vision has remained: to create a space where yoga lovers come together and build a sense of oneness can .

The new festival director Stephanie DeTar, owner of The Lotus Cafe, Yoga Studio & Shop, puts a renewed focus on the community – especially Ogden – and is excited to bring the festival and its new community partners into a fresh, new space.

In the past, participating yoga studios and teachers came from all over Wasatch, but this year it is entirely Ogden. Part of the proceeds will continue to go to local charities.

Eight Ogden Yoga Studios will be represented at the 2021 festival – Front Yoga Loft, Higher Ground Hot Yoga, Timeless Yoga, The Lotus Cafe, Yoga Studio & Shop, Ogden Sangha Yoga, North Ogden Yoga, Heal Yoga Studios and Bhav Yoga Den – allow participants to get acquainted with teachers from all yoga studios in the community at the same time and in one place.

During the 10-hour festival, a series of courses, workshops and activities will take place simultaneously throughout The Monarch Space every hour – Yoga for Athletes, Happy Hippie Stretch, Kundalini Rising, Body Scan Meditation, Mantran & Movement, Art of Arm Balance, Yoga for Anxiety, Trance Dance, Mindful Eating, Soul Connection and Herbal Fusion for Mind, Body + Soul are some of the planned courses and workshops.

But there is a lot to do between structured activities. Art vendors partner with Indie Ogden’s Ogden Bizarre Market for a one-of-a-kind shopping experience, and donation-based tarot card readings and 10- to 20-minute Reiki massage sessions are offered.

A 75-minute lunch break provides time for a nutritious meal at one of three restaurants, WBs, Cuppa, and The Lotus Cafe, all within walking distance of The Monarch.

Another way to build the community spirit of the festival is through DeTar’s opening and closing ceremonies. “I want to start and end the day together” She said.

The opening ceremony of musical meditation at 9 a.m. with traditional Indian instruments and sacred sound chants called kirtan is led by Matsu and sets a peaceful tone of unity for the day, followed by a sound bath at 6 p.m. led by Nick Mann, who will lead the participants takes you on a cathartic journey of beautiful kaleidoscopic sounds and harmonizing breathwork to bring home a lasting feeling of renewal.

Upon arrival, guests will find one “Wall of intent” for group photos and a place to write an intention for the day.

DeTar hopes to fill the day with positive energy, highlight the best selection of experienced Ogden teachers, and continue to build the strong sense of community it was originally intended to.

“Greetings to Michelle, the founder of this event, and everyone who has helped ensure that this event continues.” she explained on the Facebook event page. “I am very excited to take on the torch as director of our festival and to add to the greatness that has come before me.”

The Ogden Yoga Festival takes place on Sunday, September 19th, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at The Monarch. Tickets are $ 45. For more information, visit ogdenyogafest.com.
