The University Of Utah: Building Your Village With Komae

It really takes a village to raise a child, and Komae (Greek for “village”), a company that provides an innovative crowdsourcing solution for childcare, is bringing this slang into the 21st century. The University of Utah is working with Komae to address relevant issues that many face in ensuring quality, affordable care for their children.

Essentially, Komae allows users to connect with other parents and create small “pods” with similar parenting styles and COVID-19 safety practices. You can then offer and receive childcare and set appointments and times via the app. Komae provides an innovative system of points trading to ensure that the service can remain essentially “forever free” for users. Parents collect and use “points” in exchange for the hours of childcare they use. One hour of care performed or taken corresponds to one point. For a more detailed explanation, see the Family Guide.

U’s partnership with Komae enables parents and university-affiliated families to use the code ONEU, which provides a variety of benefits to the user. Using the code provides free tickets to parent and family workshops. Perhaps you would like to attend a seminar on “Escaping the debt trap of working parents” or bring your child to a workshop such as “Music games for babies and toddlers”. These and other activities are all provided free of charge using the ONEU code.

With the ONEU code you also receive exclusive point discounts. Parents who need to spend more points than they normally earn will need to purchase additional points at the cost of $ 15 per point. However, with the discount given by the university, the additional points are only $ 1. That is a discount of over 90%.

The exclusive ONEU code also secures access to the Utah co-op via the Komae app. Up until that point the cooperative was open to everyone, but from November the ONEU code will be required to access it. Utah Co-op members will receive four free points each month beginning in December. That’s enough for a whole session.
