OGDEN — United Way of Northern Utah, which partners with and assists a range of nonprofit groups across Weber County and beyond, is searching for a new leader.

Tim Jackson, who has been with United Way here for 10 years, the last five as chief executive officer of the nonprofit organization, will be stepping down effective Aug. 12. The United Way of Northern Utah board has launched the search for a replacement.

“I’ve loved, loved the 10 years I’ve been here,” said Jackson, who will be taking a “leadership role” with an unspecified organization in Boise, Idaho. Julie Johnson, director of community resources, wants to take over as interim leader of United Way pending selection of a new CEO.

United Way of Northern Utah works with a cross section of nonprofit groups, aiding them in their missions. Accordingly, it has an outsized role in the nonprofit community and its focus is broad-based — promoting education, financial self-sufficiency and health.

Rhett Long, chairperson of the United Way of Northern Utah board, lauded Jackson’s work with the organization.

“We’re disappointed to see Tim go. His footprint that he has created here is something we’re all very proud of,” Long said, noting the three-fold increase in the local United Way budget under his leadership. “There would be so many big potholes in the community that wouldn’t be filled without Tim’s leadership.”

With Jackson at the helm, United Way of Northern Utah “has filled community needs related to early childhood development, kindergarten readiness, literacy, food security, financial stability and emergency assistance,” according to a United Way statement. “Jackson has refined the organization’s focus and brought together diverse stakeholders to achieve common goals.”
