Washington Wizards vs. Utah Jazz Prediction, Preview, and Odds

The Washington Wizards head to Utah to play the Jazz on Thursday at 9 pm ET. Washington is coming off a 113-110 win over the Phoenix Suns to snap their 10-game losing skid. Utah, meanwhile, beat the Detroit Pistons on the road on Tuesday.

Wizards Return To Win Column

Washington snapped his 10-game losing skid on Tuesday with a 113-110 win on the road against the Phoenix Suns. Washington used a big second quarter as they outscored Phoenix 26-18 which proved to be the difference as the other three quarters they played evenly. In the game, they were led by Kyle Kuzma who had 29 points, Bradley Beal had 27 points, while Deni Avdija had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Daniel Gafford also chipped in with 12 points.

The Wizards are currently 12-20 and in 12th place in the East while they are 4-13 on the road. This season, they are currently averaging 110.7 PPG which ranks 25th but defensively they allow just 113.6 which does rank 16th. Offensively, they are shooting 47.3% from the field and 34.7% from three. They have been led by Beal who’s averaging 23.4 PPG, Kristaps Porzinigis who’s averaging 22.4, while Kuzma is chipping in with 21.5 and Rui Hachimura is adding 11.6 PPG.

Washington will be without Hachimura, and Delon Wright while Porzingis is day-to-day.

Jazz Solid At Home

Utah is currently 18-16 and in eighth place in the West while they are 5-5 in their last 10 but are solid at home as they are 11-5. The Jazz is averaging 116.9 PPG which ranks fourth in the league but they have struggled defensively as they allow 116 PPG which ranks 26th. They have been led by Lauri Markkanen who’s averaging 22.8 PPG, Jordan Clarkson who’s averaging 20.1, while Collin Sexton is averaging 14.3, and Malik Beasley is averaging 14.1.

In the Jazz’s win over the Detroit Pistons they outscored Detroit 65-51 in the second half to get the win. In the game, Utah was led by Markkanen who had 38 points while Clarkson had 21 points, Jarred Vanderbilt had a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while Beasley had 17 and Walker Kessler had 10 points.

Utah will be without Kelly Olynyk and Sexton while Micah Porter is day-to-day.

Rating:

We picked Washington to cover the spread – and even said they had a legit shot at beating Phoenix to snap their losing skid and that is what happened. Now, however, I like the Utah Jazz to win and cover the spread. This seems like a letdown spot for Washington who is riding high and is still on the road and playing against a tough Utah team who can score a lot of points. The Wizards have been mediocre defensively which does pose some problems against the Jazz team, who are fairly healthy. Meanwhile, Utah is 19-15 against the spread this season while Utah is 9-7 ATS, while the Wizards are 7-8-2 ATS as a road team. The Jazz’s offense is too good for this Wizards team and will dictate the pace which will help them win and cover the spread.

Take the Jazz – 6.5

Prediction: Jazz -6.5

Rating:

I like the over in this one as the Utah Jazz have a great offense while Washington is also capable of scoring a lot of points and their defense should allow Utah to score more than they usually do. The Jazz is currently 18-16 in hitting the over this season while they are 8-8 at home. This season, Utah is currently playing at a pace of 101.1 which ranks 15th while Washington plays at a pace of 99.6 which ranks 23rd. Yet, Utah’s offensive efficiency ranks fifth while their defensive efficiency is 25th and the Wizards rank 20th in both offensive and defensive efficiency, which should allow points to be scored as both teams struggle defensively. Meanwhile, Utah’s last 10 games the games are averaging 234.3 PPG while Washington’s last 10 games are averaging 219.5 PPG.

Take the over here.

Prediction: Over 230
