The Awardrobe Clothing Event is an Iowa State Fair 4-H event that offers young attendees the opportunity to showcase their knowledge of clothing design and production, as well as their creativity skills. During the event, young people took part in practical educational workshops; Learn about potential career opportunities in apparel, merchandising and design; and involved in a service learning activity. The teenager also interviewed a judge and a model who displayed selected or constructed garments in a public catwalk show.

“The 4-H attendees of the Awardrobe clothing event will be assessed on their oral and written communication skills based on a written report and a one-on-one interview with a judge. The adolescents are also rated according to their fashion goals, choice of clothing, their knowledge of the garment, as well as their posture and self-confidence that they show when modeling their outfits. “ said Bonnie Dalager, youth program specialist at Iowa State University Extension and Outreach 4-H Youth Development.

The youngsters participate in three categories: clothing selection – the participants choose or buy an outfit for a specific occasion; Fashion Revue – garment is constructed, hand-knitted, machine-knitted or crocheted by a participant; and The $ 15 Challenge-4-H’er buys an outfit for $ 15 or less from flea markets, consignment stores, or clothing stores like Goodwill or the Salvation Army.
