Wheels up: Direct flights from Ogden to Burbank will start on Tuesday

SALT LAKE CITY – Travelers planning a trip from Northern Utah to Southern California now have another way to get there.

Starting Tuesday afternoon, a commercial airline will fly from Ogden-Hinckley Airport to Burbank six days a week.

Houston-based Avelo Airlines’ new service meets demand from people living in and around Ogden, said Tom Christopulos, director of community and economic development for Ogden.

“The Los Angeles area is the top destination for air travelers from the Ogden area,” Christopulos said in a prepared statement.

The flights also provide Californians with a convenient route to Utah to enjoy outdoor activities or just travel to work, said Sara Toliver, CEO of Visit Ogden.

A 189-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft is scheduled to take off Monday through Saturday, arrive in Ogden at 2 p.m., and then depart at 2:40 p.m. to return to Burbank two hours.

Ogden-Hinckley Airport also has two weekly flights to Mesa, Arizona. Ogden officials say adding more commercial flights is an integral part of their long-term economic strategy, and the small airport offers a less stressful experience than larger ones with more crowds.
