11 Utah Christmas events you might want to check out this year

The holiday season is back and there is no question that people will enjoy the outdoors after spending much of the 2020 holiday season indoors. And the 2021 Christmas season offers a host of new activities for you and your family.

We have compiled 11 iconic Christmas events for you and your family to enjoy this holiday season. Each of these annual events take place in Salt Lake and Utah counties. If you miss out this year, feel free to try them out in 2022.

Festival of Trees – Mountain America Expo Center

Every year, the Mountain America Expo Center hosts the Festival of Trees, a major holiday convention where smart people can meet decorators and vendors in the community. It’s also a fundraiser for the Primary Children’s Hospital.

Christmas Market – This Is The Place Heritage Park – Salt Lake’s Foothill District

During the holidays, This Is The Place Heritage Park turns into a Christmas wonderland of sweet treats and craft events. The Christmas market is only open on one weekend in December and this weekend from December 1st to 4th.

Go through the windows – Grand America Hotel

Grand America runs walking tours during the Christmas season that showcase new storefronts for the Christmas season. You’ll taste hot chocolate and cookies on the tour while you enjoy the true magic of the Christmas season.

Breakfast with Santa Claus – Gardner Village

Quite easy. You can head to Gardner Village for breakfast with Santa in person. Just make sure you do it before December 24th as it gets pretty busy that day.

Zoolights – Utah’s Hogle Zoo

More than 200 illuminated animal and Christmas exhibitions illuminate the Christmas season. Guests can eat s’mores and drink hot chocolate while exploring the zoo, including a lighted walkway that stretches 40 meters.

Ballet West’s “The Nutcracker”

The annual performance of William Christensen’s “The Nutcracker” returns in 2021. The performances will take place throughout December.

Ice Skating – Gallivan Center

Spending some time on the ice rink could bring in the magical atmosphere of the Christmas season. The Galliavan Center offers ice skating opportunities and brings you closer to the winter season.

‘Home Alone in Concert’ – Utah Symphony

On December 21st and 22nd, the Utah Symphony will perform the score for “Home Alone” by John Williams.

Luminaria – Thanksgiving Day

More than 6,000 lights illuminate a mile-long stroll through Ashton Gardens at Thanksgiving Point. Reservations are possible every 30 minutes from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. You can buy tickets there, but also in advance to make sure your spot is reserved.

Christmas in Temple Square

Yes, Temple Square in Salt Lake City is open during the Christmas season. You and your family can come over to check the lights.

“Star of Wonder” – West Valley Performing Arts Center

Star of Wonder opens this week at the West Valley Performing Arts Center. Tickets are available at www.starofwonder.com and the show runs from December 4th to 11th.
