Adventure Guide: A Line About A Great Time

Ski poles aren’t the only poles adventurers spending their winter in Park City should buy. The area also boasts several top notch fishing spots, which offer an opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle, connect with nature and, frankly, have a great time.

One of the most popular fishing destinations is the Jordanelle Reservoir, which is just outside the boundaries of Park City and is stocked with trout, perch, kokanee salmon and tiger muskie, among others. Also nearby are Rockport, Deer Creek and Echo Reservoirs, where anglers can hit the spot when they cast a line early in the morning at sunrise. Before embarking on an ice fishing expedition, however, you should check that the ice is thick enough to avoid an unfortunate mishap. Read reviews of the conditions – as well as valuable tips on what bites and how to catch them – from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources at dwrapps.utah.gov/fishing/fStart.

Those who prefer to spend an afternoon on the banks of a river with a fishing rod in hand needn’t worry. The nearby Provo River offers some of the best trout fishing in the west, while the Weber River won’t disappoint.

Before anglers go into the water, however, they should obtain a Utah fishing license. Fishing without fishing is a Class B offense, punishable by up to six months in prison and a fine of $ 1,000. In comparison, saving the few dollars it costs on a license is a real bargain. For more information, see Wildlife.utah.gov/licenses.
