Combination of Ogden projects for traffic connection, road closure near the city center | transport

OGDEN – Four major road construction projects – all in or near downtown Ogden – will block traffic and close the streets at least in midsummer.

According to an Ogden City press release, significant construction is underway or coming soon at locations along Harrison Boulevard, 24th Street, 25th Street and 26th Street.

Work is currently underway on 25th Street between Jefferson and Van Buren Streets. The crews are replacing a waterline there as the forerunner of the Ogden Bus Rapid Transit project. Construction on the $ 120 million BRT project began in early spring. The BRT is expected to be operational by the end of 2023 and have a five-mile transit link between downtown Ogden, Weber State University and McKay-Dee Hospital. According to the city’s release, work on 25th Street will be “essentially complete” by August, but will require that section of street be closed completely.

Remaining traffic delays are also expected on Washington Boulevard between 24th and 26th Streets.

Also in connection with the BRT construction, work to replace a waterline on Harrison Boulevard between 32nd and 36th Streets is due to begin in mid-May. The project is slated to complete sometime in July and Harrison will stay open during the work, but the city says motorists should be aware and expect possible delays.

Construction of a nearly $ 5 million reconstruction of 26th Street has also begun. Ogden engineer Justin Anderson said the project will include rehabilitation of the road between Washington Boulevard and Wall Avenue, and will also include improvements to sidewalks and landscaping, as well as the addition of new bike paths, street lighting and drainage systems. The city says the project should be essentially complete by July 24th.

On-street parking on 26th Street, including weekends, will not be permitted for the duration of the project. Access to businesses in the area remains open and those wishing to access the Ogden Municipal Building parking lot must enter from Pebble Avenue on 27th Street. A new gas, water, electricity and communications company will be installed as part of the project. Planned power outages are announced with a notice period of at least 48 hours. Due to the condition of old lines, some emergency shutdowns may occur without notice.

Work has also begun on the Utah Department of Transportation’s $ 7.2 million project to modernize the iconic 24th Street Viaduct in Ogden.

Zach Whitney, UDOT’s senior communication manager, told the standards auditor the project included rehabilitation of the viaduct from A Avenue to Lincoln Avenue, which will add more than 20 years to the life of the bridge. Whitney said the cross streets of A Avenue and Lincoln will remain open during the works, but noted that traffic going east will be reduced to a single one-way street for the entire length of the bridge. Traffic to the west will be completely closed for the entire duration of the project, and pedestrian access will also not be permitted.

Motorists heading west will be directed to a designated detour on 31st Street on Wall Avenue and Washington Boulevard. Whitney also said it expects seven nights of accommodation and a full closure weekend, with dates to be set later. Construction work on the bridge is expected to last until autumn.

Ogden City encourages motorists to plan ahead during construction and use alternative routes when possible. According to the city, motorists can use the WAZE GPS navigation app or Google Maps to get real-time information on delays and closings.
