GJ’s Crader throws entire game

Cade Crader threw the Grand Junction Rockies’ first full game on Sunday with a 5-3 win over Ogden in their first double-headed game at Suplizio Field.

A sixth inning with four runs in the second game allowed Ogden to open a close game and share the double header with an 8-2 win.

Crader (3-1), a Metro State graduate who threw a perfect game for the Roadrunners in the spring, dropped just two and walked two in the game with seven innings, scattering seven hits.

He allowed single runs in each of the first three innings, including a home run in the first inning at Pavin Parks, but Grand Junction responded with a second inning of four and held out from there.

Nate Scantlin scored a triple home run in the second inning. Jake Anderson led the inning with a base hit and advanced with an error, then scored a base hit from Austin Elder. Alexis Monge followed with a double and with an out Scantlin finally gave the Rockies the lead with their fifth home run of the season.

Scantlin doubled as well, one of four extra base hits for Grand Junction.

At nightcap, Parks singled two home runs in the fourth inning to take the game out of reach and give Ogden his first win in the back-to-back double heads required when the rain postponed Wednesday and Thursday games.

Grand Junction (43-34, 17-13 second half) scored one run in the first and another in the sixth, falling back from first place in the Pioneer League South Division, half a game behind Ogden. The Rockies are half a game behind Boise for the playoff spot in the second half.
