“In his death [Christ] paid for our sins. It is for this reason that in our liturgy today we will venerate the cross on which Christ was nailed and died. It is very important to us because it is the sign of God’s infinite love. We have heard in Scripture: “There is no greater love for a man than laying down his life for his friends.” The cross that we venerate is also an invitation to love.
