July 21 data: Utah reports over 800 new cases, 4 deaths, hospitalizations close to 300

The Utah Department of Health reported 873 new COVID-19 infections and four new deaths on Wednesday. This increases the new total to 2,424 total deaths in the state.

The number of reported positive cases continues to rise, with the new total number exceeding 425,600.

Among the four new deaths are two women and two men from Salt Lake Counties, Utah Counties, and Uintah Counties.

A total of 295 people are currently hospitalized with the virus. 121 of the COVID sufferers occupy beds in the intensive care unit. Across the state, 78.2 percent of available ICU beds are occupied by patients with and without the virus.

A statement from the Utah Department of Health on today’s case numbers can be read below:

“We have the tool to end the disruption and inconvenience of COVID-19 to our lives and the economy – vaccinations. More than 186 million Americans have chosen to get vaccinated as part of the most intense security surveillance in history. In Utah, more than 1.6 million Utahns have received at least one dose and 1.4 million are fully vaccinated. Almost all COVID-19 cases, hospital admissions, and deaths are now among those who chose not to get vaccinated.

Studies from around the world continue to show that the vaccines are working. They are safe and effective. Serious side effects are rare. The benefits of vaccination outweigh the risks of vaccination AND disease of COVID-19. Vaccination is a safer, more effective, and longer lasting way to build immunity, even for those who have already been diagnosed with COVID. Vaccinations are key to keeping our children in school and free from the interruptions in their learning and extracurricular activities that we experienced in the final year of school. By choosing to vaccinate, you are protecting your family, our schools and communities.

We encourage all Utah residents to carefully consider vaccination and obtain credible information about vaccines from their health care provider and reputable health organizations. Vaccinations are FREE and possible from 12 years of age. There are hundreds of vaccine providers across the state. More information can be found here.”
