Lawrence Matheson Obituary (1947 – 2022) – Ogden, UT

Lawrence “Larry” Evans Matheson, 75 years young of Bountiful, peacefully passed away on August 2, 2022, at the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City.
Larry was born in Oakland, California on April 7, 1947, to Kenneth G. and Emma L. Matheson. Larry was fiercely passionate about his family, faith, music, and sports. He dedicated his life to both his pursuit of living the gospel and to his family. In 1966 Larry served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southwest England Bristol Mission. He went on to serve in the Air Force in 1969. After his time in the Air Force, Larry moved to Provo, Utah and graduated from BYU with his Bachelor of Science degree.
Larry accomplished so much in his wonderful life, but he was the proudest of his two boys Steven and Michael. Larry was a strong, kind, loving, and supportive father. His love for Christ was evident in how he conducted himself throughout his life. His knowledge and guidance were the foundation his family was built upon. Early in life Larry learned the importance of faith and he instilled that same faith in his sons. He was always there for them, whether they needed help with homework, how to throw a curve ball, or just a shoulder to cry on. He was a man of strong faith, and he taught the importance of family, hard work and doing what was right. He was one of the kindest souls on this planet. He was a gentle, giving man who worked tirelessly to ensure that his family had everything they needed. He faced life’s challenges with admirable strength and courage. Anyone who knew Larry knew that he was the most loving father and grandfather a family could ask for. He loved serving as an ordinance worker in the Bountiful Utah Temple.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his eldest son Steven, wife Abbie and their three children: Hudson, Cadence, and Decker; younger son, Michael; and his two brothers: Wesley and Kenneth.
