MARTHA DAY Obituary (2022) – Fort Wayne, IN

MARTHA ANN (RICHTER) DAY, 82, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Monday, April 25, 2022, in Twin Falls, Idaho, where she resided the last several years. Born Sept. 25, 1939, at Fort Wayne, she was a daughter of the late Otto and Johanna (Schirnack) Richter. She graduated from South Side High School in 1956, achieving Honor Society status. While at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, she met her husband, David P. Day. They were married in Fort Wayne on Sept. 6, 1958. She and her family resided many years in Fairfield, Calif., before retiring to Coarsegold, Calif. Musically gifted, Martha shared her talents throughout her life playing the piano, serving as church organist, and singing with the Dulcetones. She enjoyed family camping activities in the red rock country of southern Utah and Yosemite National Park. Martha is survived by her children, Deanna (Thomas) Ashby of Twin Falls, Idaho, Darlene (Scott) Chambers of Olympia, Wash., Denise (David) Kersey of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and Nathan (Donna) Day of Oakland, Calif.; 16 grand children; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Elizabeth Richter of Alameda, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband, David P. Day; and a granddaughter, Sarah Ashby. On Friday, May 13, 2022, the funeral service was held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel followed by the graveside dedication at Oakhill Cemetery, Oakhurst, Calif. Funeral arrangements were under direction of Palm Memorial Sierra Chapel in Oakhurst, Calif.
