Norman Delbert DeVries, 78, passed away on July 10, 2022.

He was born October 8, 1943, in Ogden, Utah to Wesley and Phyllis Hodson DeVries. On December 27, 1963, he married his high school sweetheart Karlene June Shupe in the Logan Temple.

Norm began working when he was very young. He worked on the family’s farm, DeVries Brothers Produce, with his father, brother, uncles, and cousins. The lessons he learned set a foundation for the strong work ethic he had all his life.

Norm was a fierce competitor and excelled in sports. He was a standout athlete in football and track at Weber High School. He attended Weber State and then Utah State University on track scholarships. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s Degree in Education and Administration. He always stressed the value of good education to his family.

He started his professional career at Wahlquist Jr. High teaching mathematics, history, and coaching. He worked as a Counselor, Assistant Principal, Principal, Personnel Director and then retired in 2001 as Director of Facilities for Weber School District.

Norm took great pride in his yard and garden. He always appreciated a good pair of work gloves. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed a lifetime spent hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He loved all pets and animals including his great horses and his amazing dogs. Norman was a man of high character, and his word was his bond. His greatest accomplishment was his family. They will forever be grateful for his love, compassion, and the life examples that he set.

Norm is survived by his wife Karlene and their three children: Natalie (George), Bart, Jed (Amy). He had 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, all of which adored him. He is also survived by his brother Ron DeVries and sisters Janet Shufelt and Karen Hollis.

Viewing to be held Sunday, July 17th from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Farr West LDS Church.

A brief viewing will be held Monday, July 18th from 10:00-10:45 am.

Funeral services to follow at 11:00 am at the Farr West LDS Church. 2123 N. 2000 W. Farr West, Utah.

Interment will be at Ben Lomond Cemetery in North Ogden, Utah.
