Richard Lynn Burbidge
Bountiful, UT Richard Lynn Burbidge, 88 years old, died in Bountiful, Utah on September 26, 2021. Richard was born on August 1, 1933 in Salt Lake County, Utah, the fifth child of Anthon L. Burbidge and Selena Jones Burbidge of Kamas and Cedar City. Raised in Murray, Utah, Richard graduated from Murray High School. After two years as a clerk / stenographer with the US Army, Korea Conflict, he returned home in 1955 and earned a BS from Brigham Young University in 1958 and an MS from Utah State University in 1968.
Richard was an educator teaching economics at Cedar City High School, Weber State College, and Ogden City High School for 34 years. He then spent 31 years as an education specialist with the Utah State School Education Office in Salt Lake City. Richard and the former Gretta Anne Romney married in 1958 and lived in Bountiful. They had five children who are all currently alive.
After the divorce in 1978, Richard married Arlene J. Danley Black, a teacher in the Nebo School District. They enjoyed their joint training occupation very much, as well as skiing, traveling and serving in various church functions. A second major disappointment in life came when Arlene developed cancer in 1998.
Richard has been an active member of Latter-day Saints Church of Jesus Christ and has served as president of elders and high priests groups, teacher training director, Sunday school director, and ward clerk. After his retirement and the death of Arlene, he served several two years as a church service missionary, helping create church manuals and manuals in other languages, and helping with the Liahona magazine. One of Richard’s favorite hobbies was fishing. He was also very good at tying his own fishing flies, which were very successful at fishing.
Richard leaves behind the sons Michael (Karen), Bryan (Jen), Kent (Gaylene), Eric (Tricia); Daughter Lynn Anne (Trevor), stepdaughters Devon and Kristen; Stepson Aaron David, 13 grandchildren, eight stepchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
There will be no formal services at his request. A funeral service for friends and family will take place on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at Provo City Cemetery, Block 9. –
