Suspect thwarted by ankle monitor data pleads guilty to indicting drive-by courts

OGDEN – A man from Ogden pleaded guilty on Wednesday to two charges of a drive-by charge on May 30, 2020.

Ogden police said they were able to identify Emiliano Santana Gomez, 20, as the shooter with ankle monitor data being followed by state probation officers.

Gomez appeared on video link from Central Utah Correctional Facility in Gunnison on Wednesday before District 2 Judge Jennifer Valencia. He was taken back to prison after being arrested in the shooting for a parole violation.

He pleaded guilty to two charges, the surrender of a firearm and the possession of a dangerous weapon by a disabled person, both of which are third-degree crimes. Weber County prosecutors agreed in a plea to reduce the gun charge from a second degree crime.

A woman told police that a vehicle drove past her residence, an apartment building on the 3400 block of Iowa Avenue, and a man in the passenger seat pointed a gun at her and then fired multiple shots into the air.

Ogden Police later found several spent shell casings.

The woman identified the shooter as “Milo” Gomez, whom the police described as a member of the gang. Several other people also witnessed the shooting, based on a likely cause.

A Utah probation and probation officer told police he knew Milo Gomez as Emiliano Gomez, who was given parole in 2018 for attempted third degree theft.

The AP&P officer looked up Gomez’s ankle monitor data and it was revealed that he was at the apartment address at the time of the shooting.

Valencia has set Gomez’s sentencing for July 21st.
