Summary of qualifications
You must complete the following requirements by the time this announcement is completed. GS-11 LEVEL: To be qualified, you must meet one of the following requirements: A. Three years of progressively higher education leading to a doctorate. or an equivalent PhD in a related field such as accounting, auditing, tax, business, law, or other related fields; OR One year of full-time work experience corresponding to the federal government’s GS-9 level and demonstrating in-depth knowledge of business practices, basic accounting principles, and federal tax laws and regulations. and this required the ability to review tax records, analyze systems and accounting, use fact-finding techniques, and develop interpersonal skills. Examples of qualified experience include: examining different types of tax returns to determine the tax liability of individual taxpayers, companies or corporations; Interpret and apply relevant parts of the Internal Revenue Code and related rules and procedures; Apply relevant portions of the Internal Revenue Code and related rules and procedures to: (1) conduct extensive analytical research, (2) use creative fact-finding techniques in the office, and (3) develop effective public contact skills. Make determinations and new determinations or reviews of liability for federal taxes; Program evaluation, internal auditing or administrative management of the assessment and collection of federal taxes (except alcohol and tobacco); Investigating alleged criminal violations of federal tax laws and making recommendations for criminal prosecution and enforcement of civil law sanctions; or levying delinquent federal taxes (excluding alcohol and tobacco), including acquiring unreported taxes due and ensuring delinquent returns. OR A combination of qualified university education and experience equal to the amount required. OR LL.M. if related;

In addition, applicants must prove their knowledge of the principles of accounting and interim accounting. Candidates can demonstrate this knowledge by either successfully completing twelve semester hours / eighteen quarter hours of college-level accounting work or by successfully passing an IRS-administered accounting exam. You can qualify through a combination of experience and education. Options for qualification based on a combination are provided in the online questions. – Experience may have been gained in the public, private or voluntary service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; Part-time work is taken into account proportionally. – To ensure that your work experience is fully credited, include on your resume the employment data by month / year and the number of hours worked per week.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following:
You must have been at GS-9 level for 52 weeks (time-in-grade requirement).
