Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah to begin reopening

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – One of Utah’s top tourist attractions is gradually reopening in June.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that Temple Square will open on June 14, with the conference center being the first to welcome guests. Further facilities will follow in the coming months.

Some activities may not be fully open for some time, according to the Church, but adjustments will be made to ensure a safe experience for those who do.

The Church is withdrawing Saturday night sessions from general conference with effect from October

The Church has published a schedule for the gradual reopening of Temple Square:

On June 14th, the Conference Center will be open to the public again with limited opening times (daily 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.), initially with guided and self-guided tours.

Virtual tours of Temple Square and personal tours of the premises are already available. These will continue. To schedule a personal tour of the conference center, call 801-240-8945 or email [email protected].

On July 6, the assembly hall and tabernacle will open to the public with the same limited hours as the conference center. Organ concerts, rehearsals and other concerts will continue to be paused.

The family history library will also be open to the public at this time. It will be available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with plans to expand to additional days and hours soon.

On the same day, the reading room of the Church’s Historical Library is open by appointment, with a limited number of appointments available Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Church says the library will also resume presentations for groups of 25 or less. The library will be fully open to the public on August 2nd.

The apiary and church history will be open to the public again on August 2nd and will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. On the same day, the Church’s History Museum and shop will reopen. The opening times are Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Church says these exhibits will be available:

  • The sky is open
  • Sisters for the right to vote
  • Mormon trails
  • Presidents of the Church
  • Temples Dot the Earth: Building the House of the Lord

The opening of the Joseph Smith Memorial, Relief Society, and Lion House will be announced at a later date.

Face masks are recommended for people who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
